Giddy Up Model Horse Show, St. Charles, IL - August 16-17, 2014

10/16/14 By Molly Benstein

As the first year with NAN-qualification status, our show was small but successful. Everyone had a wonderful time, and we welcomed a number of new youth and adult showers to the hobby. This was also the second year for the Festival of the Horse and Drum, which increased its attendance to 11,000 attendees. We had 18 exhibitors for our open show on August 16 with entries in OF Breyers, Resins, Customs, Stones and Performance. Our Breyer division was the largest of all the divisions. I'm pleased to say that the feedback was excellent and everyone said they planned to attend next year's show. Marilou Mol was the lucky winner of Lionesse.

The small Youth Show on August 17 had classes for OF Plastic models in both halter and performance, along with a novice division. For both the open and youth shows, we offered rosettes for division champions and breed reference books for overall champions. The kids were especially happy with the books.

Following the Youth Show, we had round table discussion on model horse showing, inviting other festival attendees also as we discussed starting out in the model showing hobby, where to find models and supplies and how to choose horse breeds. The kids and visitors learned a lot, and as a result, we are hosting a series of clinics on model horse showing at Barrington Saddlery this fall and working with a 4-C club this spring. Jessica Rost won both the matte Mariah model door prize and also won the raffle for the glossy Mariah, whose proceeds benefited the Illinois Equine Humane Center in Maple Park, Illinois.

Both show days proved very educational for exhibitors and Festival of the Horse and Drum attendees. We had a wonderful time!
