Everything There is to Know about Geronimo

Meet Geronimo!

The New Year is a few days away and we can't wait for the new 2016 Premier Club Collection. These brand new sculptures take months to create and even longer to tool, and the artistry involved in every step of the way is something we're very proud of! We're so excited about Geronimo, the first 2016 release that we decided to share this model's inspiration right away! Enjoy!

This beautiful new sculpture was created in the one and only Mooning Piglet Studio, by one of our favorite sculptors! (Due to her other contractual obligations, we can only refer to her studio name. She is the sculptor of some of Breyer's most popular pieces: Lonesome Glory and Spirit!) After discussing the new stock horse sculpt, we couldn't wait to see it come to life! While mustangs and draft breeds are some of this artist's favorite breeds to sculpt, she enjoys working on just about every breed of horse, as well as a vast array of other animals and birds. "This model was fun because it was based on the athletic and versatile type of Quarter Horse. These are the ones I like," she said. Working with a variety of reference images from today and yesterday including the great "Lady Bug's Moon," the model came together: fit, proud and balanced - a horse you'd love to own in real life!

The enthusiasm continued through Melanie's work as well. "I love this horse; I knew right away that I wanted to do some sort of pinto design," said Melanie Miller, who created the model's coat color. Geronimo's frame pattern stemmed from the idea of a medicine hat, suggested by Breyer's Stephanie Macejko. Melanie wanted a pattern that would be bold and flashy: "originally I was looking up references for a tobiano based pattern, but when I decided the base color would be Grullo, I realized he should be frame instead, to better show off his color," said Melanie.

Melanie enjoys painting models that can be a wide variety of colors, such as this one. "It is so interesting to see how color can actually change what the sculpture itself looks like, and it's fun toying around with that," said Melanie. Satisfied with her own work, Melanie says her favorite parts of the design are the rich details. "He has some light frosting in his tail and lots of subtle dun factors. While his pattern is fairly solid, it does still have some interesting little cutout areas providing peek-a-boos for the dun striping, and for some extra pop on his face," explained Melanie. Now that Geronimo is complete, Melanie is excited see what the future holds for this model. "I'm very pleased to have gotten to paint such a versatile new horse. It was a great experience, and I can't wait for people to start dreaming up what they will do with their own Geronimos!"

Both artists are very pleased with their contribution to the 2016 Premier Collection, and we are too! Whether you're already a proud 2016 Premier Collector Club member, or are still deciding, we hope you're as excited as we are! Remember, there are only a few days left to join!

SO beatitiful!

I LOVE HIM. I joined the collector club though because my dad said I had to chose 1. I chose collector club because it's price was reasonable and because I am saving for Breyer fest 2016! Last year was my first year and I didn't know a thing! The funny thing is that I speant all my money at the Breyer store and I didn't save for the vendors.. opps! I should have done more research. I LOVE Breyer's so much. I have more then 23 Traditional models! I have a few classics and stable mates, but I think classics don't have as much details as Traditional models but I still like them! Keep the work up Breyer

So pretty!

I generally don't like Breyers that are standing still, no matter their color, but this guy is just amazing! The stance makes him seem so big and strong... AUUGGGHHH HE'S SO PRETTY!

Ahhh, gorgeous!

What an amazing work of art. My husband wanted this model, and so he joined the Premiere Club for the very first time. He loves the interest of the pinto pattern, and the interesting sculpt, and will likely put this model under some Native American tack. I think he will look absolutely phenomenal. How fitting, that he is named Geronimo after the Apache leader.
