I bought a really large storage box to transport models in. It's plastic, and black with yellow handles, because of course it's very "manly" ha ha! But it's big enough to hold probably 20 Trad. Breyers in pony pouches, maybe even more, and it has click-locking tabs to keep the lid shut.

The best part - it has wheels! Search "Plano Sport Trunk Wheels" on Google to see things like it. It's about 35 x 14 x 16.

OK, so it's not very horsey or girly but I bet I could cover it with stickers if I wanted. Ha ha ha! Last note: Some people I know have flown with these, but technically it's like three inches "oversize". So for example, if you got a real stickler at an airline who wanted to pull out a tape measure, you might get stuck paying $75 for "oversize baggage". I will be looking for a similar one that is slightly smaller now to fly with.

I wrap my horses in tissue paper or even paper towels and then put them in a plastic bag then put them into a box with a note on size ( traditional, classic.....etc) and that works fine.

I have seen people set saddles on old toilet paper rolls, then wrap with plastic wrap around that! Kind of funny but it works. :)

I have mine in seperate plastic bags, inside a plastic container. I don't have any really nice tack, so i'm not super careful, but i do make sure it doesn't get squashed.

How do you transport your tack? I put it all in a container, but the saddles always get bent! I have seen special tack boxes, that have build in saddle stands, but I don't know where to get them. Anyone have a good solution for their tack?

Great idea with the colored totes!!! I do similar to PintoLover98, wrap in clear plastic bag, bubble wrap and "puzzle" them together. And no matter how hard I try, they never fit the same on the way home. =) I know some love the "pony pouches" others that wrap in old tee shirts. Just besure to unpack when you get home. You don't want your models sitting in the totes like that for a long time!

I love to store mine in clear tubs. I can easily see which horses are in there. You can also write a list of all your horses in the tub in marker, and place it facing out, so you can see it through the clear plastic. Then you know who is already in there! If you have a lot of models, and you are trying to unpack while they are starting to call out classes, it can help you know which tub to open first to get the horse you need.

Also, they sell "tinted" clear tubs, and those are great because I can put customs in one color tub, and OF's in another color if I want to! I have pink, light blue, and light green clear tubs that make it easy for me to keep my models organized even more.

I always make sure that the big, sturdy horses go on the bottom with the more fragile ones on top. I also try and fit as many models in a "layer" as possible and try and fit them together like pieces of a puzzle.

Same! For my CMs, I use fabric and then bubble wrap, but for OFs I just use bubble wrap, and put them together like a puzzle.

I pamper my show string! Each horse gets covered with a clear plastic bag, then a bag made of bubble-wrap before being carefully stacked in big plastic boxes along with MORE bubble wrap. I can spend as much as an hour putting them in the boxes sometimes. I always make sure that the big, sturdy horses go on the bottom with the more fragile ones on top. I also try and fit as many models in a "layer" as possible and try and fit them together like pieces of a puzzle. This makes more room and because they're so closely packed together it means that they won't slide around as much during travel. Some models with manes, tails, or ears that I'm especially worried about will have extra bubble wrap on those aeas.

I make homeade pony pouches. The horses each have their own. Then they go in a plastic tote or laundry basket. This may not be the safest way, but i don't have any really expensive horses, so it is safe enough. All my tack and props have their own boxes too.

How do you pack and care for your models when you take them on the road for a show?
