reply to: Question 3
The tags are generally small tags (think what you see at a jewelry store/pawn shop

I had to do a bit of searching, I wanted to properly credit Utterly Horses for that photo of leg tags:

Question 1:
I am confused on showing do you have to show in order to go to the event?

reply to: Question 1
You have to contact the show holder & ask if he/she allows observers, some do, some don't
It would actually be more beneficial to volunteer, as that would give you up close experience! And be more useful then just standing around. I'm sure if you weren't planning on spending all day, you could still offer that you only have a few hours. Help is usually welcome & appreciated.

Question 2:
Also when you fill out your entry form do you print it out and then give it to them or can I just do it there?

reply to: Question 2
You almost [ALMOST] always have to mail/email your entry form *prior* to arriving at the show. (Depends on size of show mostly)
If you have more then say 5-10 horses, if you have not organized them before going to the show, you probably won't get alot out of the show & will spend most of your time running around trying to figure out who is going where. Not Recommended. Definitely not enjoyable

Question 3:
Next the when you set up what are the tags for?

As others have already posted you put identifying information on the tag about your horse. Some shows/regions require the information to be printed, some allow handwritten (I use mini blank address labels & custom print for mine)
Hope this helps clear some things up for you!

To enter, you'll need to print the form, fill it out and mail it to the show holder. They'll have a deadline, just read. I'm not sure what you're saying with your other questions, maybe just ask your show holder.

Also, since it sounds like you are only showing 10 horses, I could certainly help you with this the morning of the show, as long as you have your horses named and breeds assigned to them.

hi its my first time showing ever!!!(so exited!)i need detailed info about show tags i don't know what to put on the tags.... im showing 10 horses in the sweet onion festival II any info would help tthanks a lot!!!:)

Hello, I am the organizer for Sweet Onion Live in August.

The Region 1 tag saver program is free and you have time to check it out - http://region1tagnumbers.webs.com/ - this is a number that is assigned to you as a shower for life (or until you ask to change it)

If you think you may want to attend other shows in the region, I would advise this, since your horse leg tags would then be ready for all the other shows as well. If you are just wanting to get your feet wet and try out one show for now, I would assign you a shower number closer to the show date. The shower number that I assign you would only be good for my show.

You assign your horses their numbers, they correspond to the list of all your horses that you will turn in at the show.

So there will be two numbers on each tag, your shower number, and the horse number as it is listed on your master list.

I hope this helps!
Shana

I sent an email to your show holder, hopefully she'll come on here soon and let us know! Each area or state has a different system for how to enter a Live show. Some use tags, some use index cards, some shows you have to "register" your models ahead of time.

Your show cordinator will give you a number when you sign up. If she doesn't, inquire if you get one. Not all shows require a number.

When you sign up for a show, you should get s show packet that contains all kinds of important information including how to ID your horses. A lot of shows have these posted on their website. Different shows do it different ways; some shows use index cards and others use tags. I've seen shows specify the kind and size of tags to be used. NAMSHA region 10 has a number system they identify horses with. Other shows use 2 - 3 digit initials that specify on your registration. So the bottom line is read your show packet carefully and follow the directions.

When you enter the show, the host will give it to you. Not all shows have numbers though. The one i'm going to in March just has you put the breed and gender on the front, and your name and the horses name on the back. Note:make sure when you show your horse, that the breed/gender side is up. Some judges will disqualify you for having your name up.
