A Few Days in the Very Creative Life of Breyer Sculptor Kathleen Moody!

1/29/14

Sculptor Kathleen Moody possesses a restless creative spirit and when she isn't sculpting, drawing or concepting something fabulous for Breyer, she is expanding her artistic horizons in other ways! This year, Kathleen spent some of her Christmas holidays on a slightly larger project than her Breyer sculpts! With an intrepid crew consisting of her family and some friends, Kathleen's expertise in natural and realistic sculpting took a new form - a life-sized, plush donkey for a float in a Christmas parade in her hometown of Phoenix! Together, the group created a beautiful, realistic float depicting the Nativity. And of course, since no proper telling of the Nativity would be complete without the donkey who carried Mary to Bethlehem, they had to have a donkey for their float ... which is where Kathleen's expertise came in! So here is the pictorial story of Kathleen's beautiful and realistic life-size Nativity donkey!

This article is sadly missing some of the most amazing parts of this donkey. I am Ashley, one of Kathleen's daughters. I remember when my mother was putting this donkey together and all of the hard work she put into it. This donkey is not only esthetically pleasing it is also functional. You cannot see it from this angle but on top of the donkey's back are a couple different levers. One moves the tail back and forth while the others moves the ears. So this donkey could move and project realism while traveling through the parade.

I think Kathleen is the best thing EVER to happen to Breyer! I came back to collecting after being away for many many years, because of her awesome sculptures! She rocks!!!!

Adorable donkey!

Beautiful little donkey, and I love the idea of a float with Mary riding him. Very unique. :)
