Vive la France Covered Arena Performances!

Fans love coming to BreyerFest to see the real horses that are the inspiration behind our beautiful portrait models; but BreyerFest fans also love the other horses and performers that come out to the horse park and help keep the show going all weekend long! From professional horseman, Dan James, to the athletes of our competitive Horseball teams, and the Young Guns 4-H Drill team, each BreyerFest performance group did a fantastic job of keeping everyone excited and entertained from Friday to Sunday!

Liza Holland, our equine events manager, is always on the lookout for new breeds to feature and new acts to introduce, as well as bringing back crowd favorites like Sterling Graburn, a top driver who has a distinguished competitive career and earned top titles like the USEF National Singles Driving Championship. Other favorites include Donna and Ron Georgyi, owners of Lil Ricky Rocker and of course, the Bluegrass Miniature Horse Club!

Known for his inspiring clinics and remarkable performances, Dan James undoubtedly captured every guest's attention at some point throughout the weekend. Here are some captivating moments that were caught on camera.

Horseball had the entire crowd at the edge of their seats. During each competitive match, BreyerFest guests watched while teammates galloped across the court, swooped down to grab the ball from the floor, and stood in their stirrups to make or catch every pass. Each match even concluded with the traditional "good-game" sportsmanship high-five.

The BreyerFest Instagram Meet up Debut!

We are very excited to announce the success of BreyerFest’s first Instagram Meet up, introduced this year by Breyer enthusiast, Vincent Lange! Vincent enjoys sharing his passion for Breyer collecting and customizing online through Instagram and other social media platforms. Throughout his online journey, Vincent has met many other passionate Breyer Instagrammers, including Gabrielle Scolaro and Caitlin Jordan. Shortly after becoming virtually acquainted, Vincent, Gabrielle and Caitlin decided to create the opportunity for online Breyer enthusiasts to meet in person, at BreyerFest.

Instagram Meet up guests enjoying the event and comparing models.

The group did a great job promoting their Instagram Meet up and even created a "ticket" Instagram post, encouraging other users to attend. Any users who planned to participate in the event were simply asked to repost the ticket image as an RSVP.

Vincent, Gabrielle and Caitlin decided that the Instagram Meet up was also a great opportunity to fundraise for a local charity called Old Friends, out of Georgetown, KY, an organization which provides homes for over 100 retired racing thoroughbreds. During the meet up, five Breyer models were raffled off, two of which were donated by Instagram friends Bethany Baker, Alaina D. and Victoria W. The Instagram raffle raised $160, which was given directly to a member of Old Friends.

Splash Dogs Caught in Action!

If you liked the Splash Dogs tease photo from our Parc de Celebration post, you'll love these other action shots from BreyerFest! The acrobatic pooches were running, jumping, and swimming all weekend, entertaining BreyerFest guests and having a blast at the same time. Here are some more impressive Splash Dog moments caught on camera during BreyerFest!

Some of the dogs were a little nervous to get their feet wet at first…

Parc de Celebration!

After waiting in line to get their favorite Special Run model, BreyerFest guests enjoy heading to the Celebration Park to enjoy some of the other fun, carefree activities. From pony rides and a mechanical bull to Splash Dogs and Tonka truck fun, there are all kinds of exciting opportunities for the whole family. Here are some of the things that our Vive la France guests enjoyed at the Celebration Park this year!

It's great to see all of the beautiful horses at BreyerFest,
but what's more pleasing than actually being able to ride?

they do playing in the sand box; that's where the Tonka Fun Zone comes in!

Camels, sheep, goats and more! Our petting zoo friends sure enjoyed the treats
and attention they received throughout the weekend.

There were quite a few fearless bull riders too!

The Splash Dogs competitors sure kept cool despite the summer heat.
It was a blast to watch them dive into the pool after their favorite toys!

The Vive la France Costume Contest

The BreyerFest costume ideas were better than ever this year for the Vive la France theme! As always, the staff and BreyerFest guests enjoyed seeing what kinds of fun, clever and creative costumes our guests came up with for the new theme. We saw some very impressive French-inspired costumes throughout all four divisions.

The costume contest divisions consist of Youth Individual, Youth Group, Adult Individual, Adult Group; three winners were chosen from each division and were awarded with a glossy Simba du Pont de Tournay Celebration model.

BreyerFest Celebration of Horses, Dreaming of Horses

From pirates and cowboys to princesses and Alice of Wonderland, the BreyerFest Celebration of Horses Saturday night show, Dreaming of Horses, was jam-packed with more mesmerizing equestrian performances than one could've imagined! Written and produced by Yvonne Barteau of KYB Dressage, Dreaming of Horses told the story of two little girls and their dreams of the horses! Lights, music and of course, the talent and hard work of the entire KYB Dressage troupe, including our star performers Yvonne Barteau and Dan James, made the second annual Celebration an experience to remember!

Attendees were so excited about the evening performance, they arrived at the Alltech Arena two hours early to claim the best seats, cool off, and enjoy the costume contest and carnival games before the show! Once the crowd was inside and seated, they expressed their excitement and anticipation with loud cheering and a human wave that kept up until the show was about to begin.

Vive la France Beneficiaries and Benefit Raffles!

Most would agree that BreyerFest is all about making memories, having fun with fellow collectors and searching for that one Breyer Holy Grail. But in addition to these obvious appeals, another truly rewarding and exciting part of BreyerFest is raising money for our amazing beneficiaries.

This year we had the pleasure of supporting five remarkable organizations: the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the 4H Eastern and Western Round-Ups, the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.), and The Cloud Foundation. Not only were we able to raise money for these charities through our live and silent auctions, but also with the Saturday and Sunday Benefit Raffles! This year's models included Que Sera Sera, and C'est la Vie.

BreyerFest Youth & Children Model Horse Show Honorable Mentions!

From breed class to performance, this year's BreyerFest Youth and Children Model Horse saw some very impressive entries by some very talented and dedicated collectors! The Youth and Children's Model Horse Show ran on the second day of BreyerFest, Saturday July 18; our model horse showers were among the firsts to arrive at the Kentucky Horse Park that morning, eager to jump into the competition.

With nearly 150 entries, the judges had am extremely difficult job choosing between so many pristine models. We would like to congratulate all 85 class winners, reserve champions and additional placings! While we would love to individually credit each one of our class champions, there were far too many to name! However four particular entrants were noticed and admired by the judges for their inspiring enthusiasm throughout the competition and their admirable sportsmanship.

First we would like acknowledge and congratulate Karigan L. of the Children's division, who won Class 13 - Other Pony Breeds with her Breyer Fjord model, "Zebra". Being the first time Karigan had ever competed in a model horse show, she was overwhelmed with shock and excitement when the judges announced her as class Champion; Karigan also earned Breed Overall Grand Reserve.

Karigan

Here is Karigan standing proudly with her winning model "Zebra" and her first place ribbon.

Our next honorable mention from the Children's division, Merris B.M., is also a first-time model horse shower. The daughter of two life-long Breyer collectors and BreyerFest experts, Merris has begun to follow in her parents' footsteps. Throughout the Children's show Merris won five different classes and earned Stock Breeds Champion, All Foals Champion and Breed Overall Champion!

Merris

Merris' expression was quite priceless when one of her wins was announced!

From the Youth division we would like to acknowledge the incredible costume design work of Miranda K., who spent an entire month creating a costume for her model "Norbu" the Breyer Highland Pony. Norbu's costume was made of aluminum cans sewn together to create a beautiful, unique armor. The judges were blown away by her creativity and detail, earning her first place in the Costume: Entrant Made class. Miranda also won two other classes and was named Performance Overall Grand Champion!

Lastly, we would like to mention another successful Youth division competitor, Hailey J., as well as credit her grandmother, who spent the entire day at the show with Hailey. Hailey took first place in three classes, earning TB/SB/Sport/Carriage Champion, All Foals Champion, and Breed Overall Grand Champion.

Here is Hailey and her grandmother, celebrating her victorious day.

And Finally, a big thank you to our entire BreyerFest Model Horse Show staff! Congratulations to everyone who participated!

The BreyerFest Vive la France Wedding!

It's not every day you see a wedding in the Hall of Champions at the Kentucky Horse Park, especially during BreyerFest! On July 17, the first day of BreyerFest Vive la France, BreyerFest veteran and passionate collector, Shaun Basch married her longtime beau Roger Posthumus, whom she calls her best friend. The happy couple, along with collector friends and Breyer staff gathered in the Hall of Champions for a short and sweet ceremony, followed by BreyerFest festivities. While the ceremony was anything but traditional, for Shaun and Roger it could not have been more perfect.

Roger is still new to the collector lifestyle and recently began his collection with a Breyer bull. Shaun has been collecting Breyers her whole life and has attended BreyerFest every year since 2007; this was Roger's fourth year joining her.

For Shaun, having her wedding at the Kentucky Horse Park during BreyerFest was a dream come true, and you could see it on her face throughout the entire ceremony...

Gia - The Ardennes Mare!

On the topic of our Vive la France guest horses, if you were at BreyerFest this year you also would've seen, or possibly even met, Gia! Gia, the mare accompanying Simba throughout most of the weekend, is also an Ardennes. There in support of Simba, Gia did a fantastic job of keeping him quiet and comfortable! We were also very excited to find out that Gia is 2-months pregnant with Simba's foal!

Gia

Here she is, standing quietly in her stall

We were very thankful to have Gia at BreyerFest and we wish her a happy and healthy pregnancy!

Our BreyerFest Vive la France Guest Horses!

This year our BreyerFest attendees had the lovely pleasure of meeting eight amazing guest horses: our Celebration Horse Simba du Pont de Tournay, Arabian Sport Horse Oration, Supreme Champion Quarter Pony Smokin Doubledutch, Endurance Champion Arabian OT Sara Moniet RSI, Pinto World Champion Chocolate Chip Kisses, Cedarlane Gretchen and Cedarlane Brooklyn, and Appaloosa Heritage Champion Lil' Ricky Rocker!

All guest horses arrived happy and safe; Smokin Doubledutch was our very first to settle into her Kentucky Horse Park suite! Throughout the weekend the horses were pampered by their owners and BreyerFest staff, adored by their collector fans, and paraded around the Covered Arena, showing off their talents and beauty. On each day, while their owners signed models and greeted collectors, each guest horse posed for photos with their adoring fans, who often lined up over an hour in advance to make sure they got a photo with the Breyer-famous horses!

Simba

Simba received the most hugs and kisses
out of any guest horse there!

Oration

Though it was a little different than his
typical sport horse weekend routine, Oration
quickly adapted his role as a BreyerFest celebrity.

Dutch

Doubledutch didn't mind making the 35-hour trip
from Oregon if it meant receiving the royal treatment!

Sara

For never being in an indoor arena, or even a barn before,
Sara Moniet was quite the trooper throughout her BreyerFest experience!

Choco

Choco is clearly used to being in the spotlight;
he posed for the cameras like a pro!

Brooklyn

Though she was the youngest horse there, Gretchen's foal
Cedarlane Brooklyn made everyone but her Momma look short!

Ricky

Lil' Ricky Rocker knows the drill better than any other horse at BreyerFest;
he has his fan-photo pose down to a tee!

A big thank you to all of our guest horses and their owners for making BreyerFest Vive la France a spectacular one!

BreyerFest YouTube Meet up!

While much of the thrill in collecting Breyers is finding rare models and marveling over their authenticity, many of our collectors enjoy photographing and even filming their models as well! In fact, each year at BreyerFest a passionate group of Breyer YouTubers meet up by Fluffy, the giant, inflatable Breyer, for a chance to meet fellow video bloggers face to face.

Here are some photos from this year's YouTube Meet up!

Collectors enjoy setting up models in their room window, showcasing their Breyer collections in a creative display. Dreaming of Horses Debuts at BreyerFest's Celebration of Horses Evening!

This year, Breyer is proud to welcome Yvonne Barteau and KYB Dressage, as the star and producer of Breyer's second annual Celebration of Horses evening at the Alltech Arena on Saturday, July 18th!

solo

Like some Breyer fans, Yvonne, born in Toronto, was not fortunate enough to be around horses while growing up. Determined to have a life with horses, she spent all of her free time learning everything she could about horses. After high school Yvonne made up for lost time, beginning her equestrian career as a Standardbred racing groom; later advancing to assistant trainer. After learning her trade in other training jobs, Yvonne began to focus on dressage when she realized that all of her training was grounded in that discipline. She honed both her dressage skills and experience in equestrian theater during her time with Arabian Nights Dinner Theater in Florida where she also met her husband, Kim! When Yvonne and Kim moved to Illinois to take head training positions, KYB Dressage began to take form.

Today, KYB Dressage has earned a reputation for importing quality dressage prospects and developing clients who have gone on to qualify for World Championships and World Cups. Yvonne also makes time to help young professionals who are working hard to make their way in the horse world, just as she did.

KYB Dressage will make their BreyerFest debut this year. The troupe will present Dreaming of Horses a 13-act equine extravaganza with lights and music written and choreographed by Yvonne Barteau, that will also feature the talented Dan James of Double Dan Horsemanship. The 65-minute show will include ten horses, as well as costumed riders and dancers. Among the acts will be East Meets West starring Yvonne and Dan James; as well as All the King's Horses, Alice and Wonderland and many other favorites that audiences will recognize.

Admission is included with Three Day Ticket purchase and Single Day Ticket purchasers can upgrade for $15. Tickets on the night of the show will be available at the door for $30. Advance reservations recommended as seating is limited. Open seating. Doors open at the Alltech Arena at 5:00 PM for carnival games and circus performers from the Cincinnati Circus Company, followed by the Costume Contest and Dreaming of Horses starting at approximately 6:30 PM.

Have you heard the news?? Dan James is coming back to BreyerFest!
dan and swampy

Dan James will be working with Yvonne Barteau, of KYB Dressage, for our 2nd Annual Celebration of Horses Saturday evening spectacular. And both Dan and Yvonne will be starring in the show! We can't wait to see it!

For those of you who weren't at BreyerFest last time Dan was here we want to share a bit about Dan's story. Born in Queensland Australia on a small cattle farm, Dan first began his lifelong passion with horses at six weeks old. The family milking goat would suffice until he got his first pony. Starting his first colt in his early teens sparked his hunger to understand more about the horse's thinking patterns.

In 2008, James joined his good friend, Dan Steers, in Western Australia at El Caballo Spanish Horse Centre where they performed together each weekend in the "Dan and Dan Show" developing their horsemanship techniques. In 2009, Steers and James relocated to New South Wales and Double Dan Horsemanship was born leading both young stars down the Pathway to Liberty.

In 2008, James was recognized as a world class colt trainer when he won the "Way of the Horse" at Equitana Asia Pacific. In 2012, James wowed judges again with his incredible training techniques winning the coveted Road to the Horse International Colt Starting World Champion title.

Currently, Dan is travelling the world to learn and understand more about horses and how they think.

The Cloud Foundation is coming back to BreyerFest!

You've seen updates about Cloud and his herd on our Facebook page and we're thrilled to welcome Ginger Kathrens and The Cloud Foundation back to BreyerFest!

cloud logo

As you may already now, a very special foal was born in the Pryor Mountains of Montana on May 29th, 1995. Immediately filmmaker Ginger Kathrens knew this was a special horse. Ginger is now an Emmy® award winner and Cloud is an ambassador for all of America's mustangs living on public lands. So much has changed in the past 20 years.

Ginger has followed Cloud's herd since before his birth and has witnessed what life is like for wild horses in the Pryor Mountains for the past two decades. The pale palomino stallion has always been released when rounded up by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) because of his rare color. Many of his family members have not been as lucky and have been removed by the BLM through helicopter stampedes or bait trapping. Cloud has been documented in three films, "Cloud: Wild Stallions of the Rockies," "Cloud's Legacy: The Wild Stallion Returns," and "Cloud: Challenge of the Stallions," which aired on the PBS Nature series.

Cloud's incredible story and Ginger's hard work and vision have made Cloud so much more than what was ever though possible. The Cloud Foundation grew out of Ginger's passion for the preservation of wild horses and protection of Cloud's herd. The non-profit organization is dedicated to preventing the extinction of Cloud's herd through education, media events and programming, and public involvement. In 2011, Congress declared Cloud an ambassador for all wild horses living in the American West. He has been honored over the years with lots of Breyer models and sets. Our current set, Cloud's Encore, is available on our website.

Ginger will be giving a seminar about her experiences documenting Cloud and his herd. See photos and videos of Cloud's newest family members and learn more about the plight of the mustangs, and what we can do to help!

Players will often stand in the stirrups in order to make a better pass or catch
Horseball - Coming to BreyerFest!

In the spirit of throwback Thursday, we're traveling back to the 1970's for a thrilling equestrian sport born in France, Horseball! And Horseball will be at BreyerFest this year! C'est plus excitant!

This fast-paced, competitive sport involves two teams, six players, and a harnessed soccer ball, all of which engage in a battle of passing, tackling, penalties, and more.

The object of the game is to score on the opponent's goal, a circular net three feet in diameter, which stands almost 15 feet high. In order to score, a team must pass the ball among three different players before taking a shot. The game is made up of two quarters, each lasting about 10 minutes.

An interesting challenge to the game is that when the ball is on the ground, it must be picked up from horseback. For example, when the game begins, the ball starts out on the ground, and is picked up by a player to be set in play. Players may also have to pick up the ball if it falls to the ground while it is in play. Before the game, a coin toss is held to determine which side gets to choose to A. to start with the pick-up, or B. to pick which end to defend.

horse ball 2

Horseball is played on what is called the pitch, a rectangular arena surrounded by a small, inflatable barrier

hb 3

Another element that makes this sport so engaging to watch, and perhaps slightly nerve-racking to play, is the level of intensity between the opposing teams. According to the International Federation of Horse-Ball Sport Rules, the term "tackling" refers to the action of bringing one's horse into contact with the ball carrier's horse. Players will engage in these aggressive tactics in order to slow down the opponent or steal the ball. To keep the game safe, certain rules have been put into place regarding tackling and other strategies; if these rules are not followed, penalties are awarded to the opposing team.

hb 4

Currently, there are 18 countries around the world which engage in the sport of Horseball. Although we do not have the pleasure of participating in this exhilarating sport here in the US, we are thrilled to present our Horseball Exhibition at BreyerFest this year, sanctioned by the FHIB. Joining us are top players from France, Portugal, Spain and Canada! The games will take place in the covered arena on Friday at 4pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 9:30am. There will also be a meet and greet with the teams on Friday at 1pm, Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 9:30am. Don't forget to stop by and cheer on the teams!

For more information about Horseball you can visit the FIHB website.

chocolate 1
Welcome to BreyerFest, Chocolate Chip Kisses!

Also known as "Choco," this colorful pinto pony and his youth rider/owner, Lauren Demchuk, have earned 22 Pinto World Championship titles together, in both the Western and English show rings! Regardless of Choco's pony size, he competes against regular horses much bigger than himself.

Beyond their successes, this competitive pair has continued to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds! Just a few months before the Pinto World Championship Horse Show, Lauren was diagnosed with epithelioid sarcoma, a rare cancer. Despite the life-changing news, Lauren and Choco continued to train focusing on Lauren's goal of attending the world show.

In addition to the Pinto World Championships, Choco and Lauren's titles continue with nine PtHA Reserve World Championships, two PtHA World High Point 18 & Under Pony, PtHA World High Point 18 & Under English, PtHA World High Point 18 & Under Western, 4th in the nation for Junior Youth High Point and a multitude of regional and local wins.

In 2014, Lauren earned her Pinto Youth Legion of Merit Award, thanks to Choco, and their trainer, Karen Clark. Karen was named Pinto Horsewoman of the Year and was inducted into the Pinto Hall of Fame.

Lauren and Choco remain side by side, now on the road to recovery.

Our Chocolate Chip Kisses model is on the Stock Horse Stallion mold, sculpted by Chris Hess. Choco is a dark bay tobiano, with an irregular blaze, a snip, and black mane and tail.

Don't forget to stop by and say hi to Lauren and Choco at BreyerFest!

New Workshop at BreyerFest!
workshop29

Join Karen Gerhardt for a brand new BreyerFest workshop on Thursday, July 16th from 7am-12pm! This hands-on, five hour workshop will introduce hobbyists to the art of ceramic models with fired overglazes, also known as chinapaints.

Students will receive a basic introduction to painting ceramics with overglaze paints. They will learn to mix the paint (which is in a powdered pigment form) with an oily media to create a palette of colors that can be applied with brushes in a technique very similar to oil painting.

This workshop is recommended for any artist who is currently intermediately-to-professionally experienced in painting model horses using oils, acrylics, pastels, or a combination of those. Unfortunately, it's not for beginning painters.

You can find out more about the workshop or sign up on our website! You can see our full workshop schedule here.

Meet Michelle Masters, BreyerFest Open Show Manager

Some of our BreyerFest attendees know Michelle Masters very well while others haven't met Michelle during their time at the Kentucky Horse Park. So we wanted to officially introduce Michelle Masters to everyone! And if you already know Michelle, you might just learn a new thing or two about her.

michelle
Michelle Masters

Michelle has been managing the BreyerFest Open Show since 2006, but has been collecting Breyers for much longer. In fact, Michelle got her first Breyer model horse from her aunt when she was seven. In the last 45-odd years she's collected 300 O.F. Breyer models as well as special runs and event models.

She got her model horse show start when she attended her first ‘live' show in 1975. She's been to countless shows since then! When we were chatting to Michelle, we learned more about her first show. Michelle said "The first show I held was in the basement of my parents' house in 1978, but I really spread my show-holder wings when I moved to New England in the late 1980's and started holding shows on a regular basis (some folks may still remember the New England Fall Classic)."

Michelle has been a model horse show judge all over the East coast, specializing in performance, breed halter and collectability. Michelle also enjoyed many successful years of showing, particularly in performance where she really enjoy recreating real equine events, especially hunters/jumpers and dressage scenes. Michelle even rode horses back in the day!

Michelle first attended BreyerFest in 1993 and impressively she's only missed two years since then! Michelle attended ten years of BreyerFest with all three of my daughters, who also collect model horses and have shown in many shows. Michelle said that she would never forget a specific show many years ago, "I was showing in an Open division, judging the Intermediate division and keeping an eye on the girls while they showed in Novice! Whew!" Sounds like a busy day!

Michelle started out as a judge at BreyerFest, then moved on to teach the Showing and Performance clinics before being asked to take over as show manager for the Open Show in 2006. Michelle considers her duties as show manager a true labor of love as it combines her love of organizing and planning with her life-long love of the model horse hobby.

Michelle is very busy year round with her job as an 8th grade English teacher, so of course she can't get enough books! Michelle also adores her three dogs and the beach, and loves jigsaw puzzles, playing volleyball and attending Renaissance festivals. She said "my daughters are the lights in my life and we look forward to BreyerFest every year to spend time together, see long-time friends, attend all of the wonderful special events, bring home great new models and celebrate our shared love of horses and Breyers!"

Keep an eye out for Michelle at BreyerFest this year!

More information about the Steeplechase workshop!

1

You've already read about Kim and Kathi's Stablemates Performance - Steeplechase workshop on our blog a few weeks ago, but we just saw the jump workshop participants will be making and had to share! It looks so cool!

steeple

This jump is actually adapted from one of the trademark jumps in the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris course at Auteuil Racecourse. It's called the "Riviere des Tribunes" and it has been on the course for over 100 years. It's a staple of French racing!

The horses must jump a hedge that is a meter tall and the hedge and water together are 8 meters wide! Sounds like hard work if you ask us! The Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris is one of the elite jumps races in the world with a total distance of 3.75 miles and 23 obstacles to conquer.

The workshop is held on Saturday 10am - 12pm and is ideal for any level, beginner to advanced.

Learn more about our workshops and see the complete schedule here.

OT Sara Moniet RSI

We're thrilled to welcome OT Sara Moniet RSI to BreyerFest this year! Sara is an endurance champion and a Breyer model!

OT Sara Moniet RSI is owned by Crockett Dumas, Arabian horse breeder and trainer.

Crockett Dumas established his Outlaw Trail Ranch in Escalante, Utah, with the purpose of creating a top-level endurance horse breeding program. Using carefully selected champion breeding stock and Richard Pritzlaff's (RSI) bloodlines, Dumas' horses show the results of his hard work, having earned 51 overall American Endurance Ride Conference (AERC) National and Regional Championships.

OT Sara Moniet RSI's Breyer Model

OT Sara Moniet RSI is one of the talented horses bred, trained and competed by Crockett Dumas. In 2011, the Arabian Horse Association (AHA) named the then 7-year-old mare the AHA Distance Horse of the Year. In that year alone, she covered 1,675 competition miles, completed all 31 rides she entered, and had 10 overall wins and 9 Best Conditions. She finished in the top 10 in 30 of those rides - all while carrying over 225 pounds of tack and rider! Her wins included the 100 Mile AERC National Heavy Weight Championship, the 250 Mile Death Valley, the 200 Mile Eastern Mojave, the 165 Mile Shamrock, the 155 Mile Cuyama Oaks and the 155 Mile Moab Canyons races. To cap off their phenomenal year, she was also named AERC's Distance Horse of the Year, the AHA's High Point 55-99 mile Endurance Horse, and was named the Institute for the Desert Arabian Horse's Drinkers of the Wind Challenge Champion.

There are many more miles ahead on Sara and Dumas' journey, and we don't think they'd have it any other way!

The OT Sara Moniet RSI model is on the Arabian Mare mold sculpted by Kathleen Moody. The model is a beautiful rich chestnut color with a gorgeous flaxen mane and tail.
OT Sara Moniet RSI will be at BreyerFest and is already excited to meet all of her fans! Stop by and say hi!

One of our latest Breyer Models and a BreyerFest Guest Horse, Smokin Doubledutch is a 2002 Pinto Quarter Pony, and she is a showing machine. Standing only 54" high this mare packs a whole lot of pizzazz in a small package!

Quadruple registered, "Dutch" holds papers with the International Quarter Pony Association (IQPA), North American Sport Pony Registry, Pinto Horse Association, and the American Paint Pony Registry.

Supreme Champion Quarter Pony! - © Jeff Kirkbride

While Quarter Ponies share many of the characteristics of the American Quarter Horse, they have their own registry. To be registered in the IQPA, all ponies must exhibit Quarter Horse-type conformation and disposition, and measure under 14.2H. For standard registration, one parent must be registered with one of these approved breed registries: IQPA, American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, Appaloosa Horse Club, or Pony of the Americas Club. By allowing other bloodlines, Quarter Ponies sometimes sport colorful coat patterns not seen on Quarter Horses!

Owned by Tami Platt of Rainy Day Ponies, Dutch has been named the Quarter Pony Association's (QPA) Overall High Point Quarter Pony or Reserve High Point an incredible 6 times over the last 8 years. In 2007, she earned the Superior Champion title when she attained Register of Honors in halter, trail, driving and equitation. The next year, she was awarded the Versatility Champion title after receiving her fifth Register of Merit title. In 2009, she also received the honor of being named the QPA's first Supreme Champion! This feat was accomplished by earning five Superior titles in the following divisions: halter, trail, driving, English, and equitation.

Join Breyer enthusiasts from all over the country and showcase your favorite models!
1

Every year, BreyerFest hosts three world class model horse shows for kids, youth, and adults. The Open Show is open to all ages but you must have an adult BreyerFest ticket to enter. A model horse show is similar to a live horse show except that models are shown. Models can be show in two divisions: halter and performance. Halter showing is great for beginners who haven't added a lot of tack and accessories to their collection. You can show your models right out of the box! Performance showing seeks to recreate a scene from the real horse world in miniature using model horses, accessories and other props. Performance showing is creative, educational and fun! While the Open Show is a competitive environment there is still a strong emphasis on learning and having fun with your Breyer Models!

There's tons of information on our website Community Pages if you're a first time shower, or if you haven't been to a show in a while and need a quick refresher. Also check out the First Timer's Guide to Showing at BreyerFest if you are new to the Open Show.

Registration is required for all Model Horse Shows. Registration is open to Three-Day ticket holders only, separate fees are required.

More information, including rules and regulations, class lists, breed classifications, and much more on the BreyerFest Model Horse Show Page.

You've already seen his gorgeous model now learn more about the horse, the talk of the Arabian sport horse world!

Oration, a 2004 Bay Arabian by Dormane out of Ortie, is the only stallion in breed history to win multiple National Championships in halter and performance at an Arabian National Show in the same year.

Imported as a weanling by his breeder Dianne Waldron, Oration was destined for a career on the racetrack. Sired by the French leading racing sire Dormane, this bay stallion didn't have the speed his other siblings have demonstrated. Dianne partnered with well-known Arabian trainer, Ricci Desiderio, to have Oration trained as a sport horse. Oration found his calling!

At his first horse show in 2009, Oration won 16 of his 21 classes. That same year, Oration was undefeated at the Arabian Regional Championships in all seven of his classes and earned the title of Supreme Sport Horse Under Saddle (SHUS).

Oration's next outing that year was the Sport Horse National Championships, where he won National Championships in 6 classes (Working Hunter Green and Amateur to Ride (ATR), SHUS Junior Horse and ATR, Sport Horse In Hand Stallions Open, and Hunter Hack ATR) plus Reserve in SHIH Stallions Amateur to Handle (ATH) and a Top Ten in Hunter Hack Open. Oration was also named Supreme Reserve Champion Sport Horse with his rider/handler Michael Desiderio, who earned top rider honors.

In 2010, Oration added to his National Titles, winning seven National Championships along with the title of Supreme Sport Horse Champion at the Sport Horse National Championships. He earned the Arabian Horse Association's highest achievement award, the Legion of Masters combined with the Legion of Excellence.

Oration - Breyer Model

In 2011 at the Arabian National Championships, Oration competed in four Working Hunter classes and won National Championships in all of them! After sitting out the 2012 Sport Horse National show, Oration competed at the 2013 Arabian Youth Nationals with junior rider Alexandria Desiderio earning National Championships in Working Hunter and Hunter Hack, plus Reserve National SHUS Champion. Later that year, he won another four National Championships and was named High Point Hunter/Jumper of the show at the National Sport Horse Championships. Oration capped off a very successful 2013 by winning the 2013 Arabian Sport Horse of the Year!

During 2014, Oration maintained his winning streak when he earned two Youth National Championships and two Sport Horse National Championships over fences.
Oration remains undefeated in Arabian Working Hunters at the National level!

The Oration model is on Strapless, a collector favorite mold, originally introduced in 2003 and sculpted by Sommer Prosser. Oration is a rich red bay, with a distinctive black braided mane and tail. Oration also has a diamond and broken stripe.

Oration will be available as a Store Special at BreyerFest! You don't need a Three-Day ticket to purchase the Store Specials as Oration will be available all weekend!

You can see the full line of Store Specials and Special Runs models on the Exclusive Models page. We will add the new models once they've been unveiled here on the BreyerFest Blog.

Our latest Special Run model is quite the style connoisseur!

Can anyone guess which horse this is?

February 27, 2015

For those of you who are new to BreyerFest we wanted to let you know a little bit more about the Special Run models and the Special Run lines. For those of you who have been to BreyerFest before it's a quick reminder of the process!

What are "Special Runs" anyway?
Breyer creates models exclusively for BreyerFest Three-Day Ticket holders, these models are known as "Special Runs".  The total number of models varies from year to year, but typically there are 8 different models to choose from. Within each option we may or may not have included some surprises - like ½ the run is glossy or the entire model is a surprise! With a "Surprise Set" you won't know anything about the model until you open it!  Models are announced on the BreyerFest blog throughout the year leading up to BreyerFest. The models will also be on the Exclusive Models page after are released.  Prices and quantities will be announced in the Event Program which is posted online in early July.

So how do you buy these models?
Each Three-Day Ticket holder receives a packet of information approximately 4-6 weeks after your ticket purchase is complete - it will include your admission button, a Celebration Model Redemption ticket, a ticket for any additional activities included with your ticket (like our Saturday evening spectacular in 2014) and a Special Run Ticket. The Special Run tickets are randomly chosen for each ticket packet. Tickets are for a specific day and time - this indicates the time in which you can shop in the Special Run section of the Breyer Store. Ticket times start at 10am on Friday and run hourly through 12pm on Sunday. To keep things fair and organized, we have taken each model and broken the total quantity down into 18 different groups (there's 18 different ticket times over the weekend). This way each hour has an equal shopping opportunity. The Special Run ticket is also numbered. Fifteen minutes before the start of that shopping hour, a BreyerFest staff member will draw a random number to start the line. Small groups of people will be let into the store at a time to keep things from getting too crowded.  If you are late and miss when your ticket number went into the store you will need to go to the end of the line, so please be prompt! Once you are in the Special Run section of the Breyer Store, you can purchase up to 2 different Special Run models. You cannot purchase 2 of the same model.

Here is an example of how to line up: You have received ticket #35 for the time slot of Friday afternoon from 2:00-3:00 p.m.  At 1:45 p.m., a number will be drawn that will determine which ticket number will start the line.  If the number drawn is #29, the line for that time slot will start with the holder of ticket #29, followed by #30, #31 and so on.  When the last number has been reached (#375), the next number will be #1, then #2 and so on.  If you are late and your ticket number has already gone into the store you must go to the end of the line.

Important
- Keep in mind that each person can only go through the Special Run line once per ticket and can only purchase 2 models at a time. If you are shopping for a child or a friend who is taking a workshop or showing and therefore have multiple Special Run tickets you cannot go through the Special Run Line with consecutively numbered tickets. You must line up again after your first ticket time or be sure each ticket is for a different hour. Another option is to give your extra ticket to someone else to go through the line for you.

What happens if I am showing all day Friday or Saturday?

It is very important to tell us if you are planning to show in either the Open or Youth and Children's Show when you are buying your ticket. On the ticket order form there is a drop down that says "To aid special run ticket assignment, please choose one (NOTE: Must register for Model Horse Shows separately):" This drop down determines if you will get a Friday, Saturday or Sunday ticket time. If you indicate that you are planning to show on Friday in the Open Show, you will get a Saturday or Sunday ticket time. If you say you are planning to show on Saturday in the Youth and Children's Show, you will get a Friday or Sunday ticket time. Those that select either "Not Showing" or "Showing in Both Shows" will receive a randomly assigned ticket.

Important -
This drop down is for planning purposes only and does not register you for the show. You must register for either show AFTER you complete this purchase. The account (email address) you used to purchase the 3-Day tickets will automatically be added to a group that has access to those registration pages.

What about Workshop conflicts?
After you have completed your 3-Day ticket purchase, your account (email address) will be placed into a group that has access to register for Workshops. If your Special Run ticket ends up conflicting with your Workshop time you have a few options - have a friend or parent go shopping for you, switch to a different workshop or call Customer Service at 800-413-3348 for assistance.

The Kentucky Horse Park is as much a part of BreyerFest as our models and Pal O'Mine. Our veteran guests love making the trip to their beautiful bluegrass home away from home. There is often SO much to do at BreyerFest that many of our guests don't have a chance to visit all that the Horse Park has to offer. We always recommend taking some time to see the park and visit with the many equines that are lucky enough to live there! Here are some highlights you may want to check out! All attractions are included in your ticket unless otherwise noted.

Visit with Racing Legends at the Hall of Champions - From the moment you step foot into the Hall of Champions you know you are in the presence of greatness. You really can feel the power in each of these legendary Thoroughbreds and Trotters. Stay for one of the presentations and hear about each horse's racing career. A truly inspiring visit.

International Museum of the Horse is the largest and most comprehensive museum in the world dedicated to exploring the important history of all horses and their impact on human civilization. Through its ever-growing library and archives, it also serves as a resource for scholars and researchers throughout the world. Their interactive "A Gift from the Desert: the Art, Culture and History of the Arabian Horse" exhibit is ideal for young or young at heart equine enthusiasts!

The American Saddlebred Museum truly is the Kentucky Horse Park's "Showplace for Saddlebreds." Known as "The Horse America Made," the American Saddlebred has played an important role in our nation's history. That history, along with award-winning movies and unique, interactive exhibits (One even features Breyer portrait model CH Sprinkles!), are a must see during your visit to the park.

The historic Big Barn is home to the Park's draft horses and a display of incredible carriages. Following a fire in the 1920s, the Big Barn was enlarged to 463 feet in length and 74 feet in width, making it one of, if not the, largest horse barns in America. Wow! Visitors are encouraged to visit this barn in the mornings to watch the draft horses being groomed and harnessed for the Horse Drawn Tours (separate fee applies).

Horseback Riding - You can't come to Kentucky and not go riding! BreyerFest offers free pony rides for our younger fans, but the KHP offers a guided 40-minute trail ride, suitable for first-time riders, along the outskirts of the park. See site for age/weight restrictions. Separate fee applies.

For more information on any of the attractions at the Kentucky Horse Park visit the Equine Theme Park section of KyHorsePark.com. Remember - most KHP attractions are included with your BreyerFest ticket so be sure to check them out!
