2015 North American Nationals

With BreyerFest just a week away, we thought all the model horse showers who have signed up for BreyerFest's three model horse shows might like to see some of the inspiring and "drool-worthy" models that were shown at this year's North American Nationals!

North American Nationals, or NAN, is the largest model horse show in the nation! This year, the show celebrated its 20th anniversary. The first NAN was held in 1995. Typically, the show alternates between Lexington, KY and another location. The location outside Kentucky is chosen to give showers in new areas a chance to attend a Nationals show near them. Past shows have been held in many states, such as Arizona, Pennsylvania, Texas and Oregon. This year, the show was held in Palm Springs, CA. Palm Springs is located about two hours outside of Los Angles, in southern California.

There were over 100 showers in attendance and thousands of models entered. NAN has divisions for all model horses, including Chinas, Resins, Original Finish, Performance, Collectibility, and Workmanship. NAN is different from a regular model horse show. All models that enter NAN need to qualify by winning at a Member show. First you must enter a local model horse show that is sanctioned by NAMHSA. Shows are held all over the United States and in Canada, about 100 model horse shows every year! You can find a list of member shows in your area on the NAMSHA web site here: http://www.namhsa.org/membershows.htm

Once you enter a local show, if you place first or second in a class, you will get a colored card with your ribbon. That is your horse's ticket to Nationals! The cards are sent into NAMHSA when you enter Nationals. This means that every single model horse at NAN is already a winner! Classes are often large at NAN, so your horse might go in a class with up to forty other models that have all won first or second place in their home towns. A "Top 10" is chosen from the group, and each winner gets a beautiful rosette. The first and second highest scoring models also get a coveted gold or silver plaque. To win at NAN is a huge honor.

NAN 2016 will be held in Lexington, KY during Breyerfest next year. Don't forget you have to qualify your models before NAN, in order to enter, so now is a good time to look for a Member show in your area and get started! To find out more about NAN, please visit http://www.namhsa.org/

Palm Springs NAN

So thrilled - my Mountie set-up made it into your review! I got a Top 10 rosette with that horse - custom doll by Anne Field, of course.
