Vintage Point: By By Kelly Kesicki and Kelly Weimer One of the original horse breeds founded in the U. S., Morgan horses are beloved for their disposition, strength, endurance, and beauty. The breed can be traced back to the foundation sire, Figure, a bay stallion that later became known by the name of his owner, Justin Morgan. His most famous three sons were Sherman, Woodbury, and Bulrush. In 1987, Breyer honored one of these famous sons by creating a sculpture of Sherman Morgan. Given model #430 and sculpted by well-known equine artist Jeanne Mellin Herrick, Sherman Morgan was produced from 1987-1990. Part of the Artist’s Series, Sherman was issued in a matte chestnut with a darker mane and tail, right hind sock and stripe.
