Breyer Photo Show May 2016 - Results

Celebrating Springtime, Eventers Cross-Country Phase!

This month's photo show was judged by Jackie Arns Rossi. Jackie has been a hobbyist and rabid performance shower since about 1990. In real life, she is a companion animal veterinarian. She says, "I do not currently have a horse, but when I did, we fox hunted and evented through Pony Club. Eventing is my favorite horse sport. I love that it tests multiple things - dressage, jumping, conditioning and endurance. Cross country was definitely the part I found most fun when I was competing my horse, and it's the thing most people associate with the sport.

Here are my placings:

First Place

Dawne C., Powell Butte, OR

This is an exciting photo that really captures the energy of the event. The angle the picture was taken out really makes it look like this model is being balanced to take this slightly uphill fence with a muddy approach. The spatters make this look like a frozen frame instead of a posed picture.

Second Place

Cassie B., Douglass, KS

I had to do a double take before realizing this was a Micro mini!  Everything is nicely in scale here - from the jump to the tack - and the depth of field blend everything nicely together.

Third Place

Shana B., College Place, WA

Another very nice image - tack is in scale and fits nicely. This straightforward log jump is about perfect for this model.

Fourth Place

Kaleigh B., Sharpsburg, GA

This is a well composed photo of a younger rider. Both horse and rider are paying attention to the fence before them, and seemed well paced to take it easily. I like that the base of this model is well hidden. The only change I would make are the boots on the front legs - these are usually seen in show jumping, while event horses have leg protection that covers the front of the cannon.

Fifth Place

Willow C., Stanwood, WA

Nice action shot, with a fence that looks perfect for lower level eventing. I really like all the color on this entry. Horse is placed well to this fence and it looks like he will clear it easily.

Sixth Place

Dayna Spencer, E. Sparta, OH

I felt this entry and the 5th place one were very close. I love the tack and jump in this entry, but I felt that Harley was going a little slower than I would like for this fence, and I'm not as sure he is going to have as easy a time going over it as the Gem Twist would. This is easy to fix though - use a smaller jump, or show the horse with a longer approach.
