description:

The Pony Express, a horse relay mail service covering 1,966 miles of wilderness between St. Joseph MO and Sacramento, CA in only 10 days, is one of the great legends of the American West. For 18 months starting in April 1861, some 90 riders and about 500 horses made the 75-100 mile run between each of 119 relay stations. Well bred and well fed, Pony Express horses were known for being swift, dependable, and highly intelligent, and were often bred from Mustang and Morgan stock. In 1861, one such reliable horse arrived at a relay station with a bag full of mail but no rider! 11-year-old Broncho Charlie volunteered to continue with the horse, becoming the youngest Pony Express rider and a legend in his own right.

In recognition of this history, a portion of the proceeds from the sales of this model will be donated to the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Foundations by Breyer and TSC!
