Among the many legends in the show jumping world, Snowman is certainly amongst the top.
In 1956, trainer Harry deLeyer bought the dirty gray ex-plow horse for $80 off of a truck bound for the slaughterhouse. Snowman's incredible talent with deLeyer on board took them on to win Champion at the 1958 National Horse Show and the stakes in 1959.
Snowman was also awarded the American Horse Shows Association Horse of the Year Award and the Professional Horseman's Association Championship both those years.
But his gentle disposition is what made him truly unique; all eight of the deLeyer children were often seen taking Snowman swimming in the Long Island Sound. After his retirement from showing, he remained with de Leyer as a lesson horse until his peaceful death at the age of twenty.
