As a UK-based hobbyist unable to make the trip to Kentucky for BreyerFest, this next artist is thrilled to be able to be involved virtually again in 2021, and extra thrilled to be a part of this summer’s BreyerFest Artisans’ Gallery.
Meet – Emma Sumner of Clarity Studios!
Though she’s been living the BreyerFest experience vicariously through friends since 2017, 2020’s Celtic Fling was the first year she, and many international hobbyists, were able to participate in a more hands-on way. And Emma can’t wait to be a part if the action in July when she exhibits as a part of the Artisans’ Gallery for the first time.
From her home in the English Midlands, she’s always owned a ridden horses. However, in 2012 an accident that resulted in a fractured spine caused her to be sidelined for quite some time, and it was as a result of that experience that she started to explore the artistic side of the hobby. Getting into sculpting, she began her artistic journey taking commissions for friends who wanted sculptures of their pets. As time went on she started getting into simple re-sculpting projects on models, and now, she’s graduated to digital sculpting and 3-D printing.
Emma draws her inspiration from the beauty and personality of the equestrian world, remarking that the variety makes it seem like there are endless possibilities for her art. And, she says, the way other hobby artists are constantly inspired by each other, raising the bar, and making models more realistic reminds her to keep challenging herself.
As a part of her online Artisans’ Gallery offerings in July, Emma is looking forward to offering fans some new artist resins in a variety of scales and possibly a few copies of her first sculpt, Herbert. You can find Emma here!
