We have got another busy week ahead of us on the BreyerFest Blog and we are starting it off with a BreyerFest Marketplace highlight!
Meet – Alpha Mare Art!
Julie, the creative mind behind this tack business, has been attending BreyerFest since 2004, but it was not until 2015 that she became a seller on the bustling concourse in the Covered Arena. We are thrilled she’s joined us for this summer’s celebration of Horse of a Different Color, being hosted virtually.
A Wisconsin native, she recalls her first inspiration: “I remember seeing an article about live model horse shows in Horse Illustrated. I thought it sounded like fun!” Not long after that, she attended her first show across the border in Illinois and fell in love with the hobby. These days, her favorite part of the hobby is photo showing with TOPSA – the Totally Online Photo Show Association.
She has been a real horsewoman since she was a little girl, and has fond memories of going to shows and seeing all the beautiful show tack on competing horses. “It’s amazing to see the different styles of tack used around the world,” she recalls.
When it comes to her work as a model horse tack maker, she finds she is most inspired by the variety of sculptures coming out, which allow her to challenge herself as she learns new tack-customizing techniques. This summer at BreyerFest, she is most looking forward to highlighting her new Western show tack for BreyerFest guests. You’ll be able to find Alpha Mare Art among this summer’s BreyerFest Marketplace sellers, but in the meantime, you can find her work here!
