Good Saturday morning, BreyerFest Blog fans! We are almost halfway through June and a little over a month away from the biggest Breyer party of the year! This morning, we are excited to introduce you to an artist who is selling for the first time at BreyerFest.
Meet – Ilana Ostrar!
Debuting her work for fans at what will be her own second BreyerFest experience, Ilana is from Illinois and can trace her equine inspiration back to a piece of art created by her mother and grandparents that hung in her home during her childhood. Though she didn’t get to spend as much time as she would have liked to around real horses, she immersed herself in books about horses.
She started her own drawing journey as a child and as she learned more about real horses and their incredible colors, she honed in on this talent and is inspired by so many parts of the model horse community – especially other artists. Of her art she says, “Working to capture the expressiveness, movement, and essence of the horse in a drawing, painting, or model will never get old. Every day I find a new horse image or coat color that inspires me. I have too many ideas and never enough time.”
Her favorite part of the model horse hobby is the incredible community, which is made all the more convenient to be a part of now that so much of that community exists online. Ilana loves having people in her life that she can share her love of horses and models with. She loves live showing, photo showing, and collects both original finish and custom models, in addition to being an artist.
This summer, as a part of her showcase in the BreyerFest Artisans’ Gallery, Ilana plans to unearth some never-before-seen pieces she’s created, as well as some items she’s specifically created for this summer’s celebration of Horse of a Different Color. You can see Ilana in just a few weeks during BreyerFest, or you can find her work here.
