This year, BreyerFest workshops have been incredibly popular! We are so excited that BreyerFest guests are so eager to roll up their sleeves and learn more about all the different aspects of the model horse hobby, from painting to customizing.
If you haven’t registered, there are still some amazing workshops with available space, so don’t delay!
Repairing Horses with Jennifer Danza has been an crowd favorite for several years. This workshop is like plastic surgery for your models! In this hands-on class, Jennifer will walk participants through the methods of repairing models with a variety of bumps and bruises. From broken legs and tails, to severe scrapes and scratches, this workshop is great for anyone with a model or two in their collection that might need some TCL. This class requires participants to be comfortable using glue, sculpting epoxy, and motor tools.
Introduction to Collecting and Showing Model Horses with Liz Isham Cory is brand new for 2020! Liz has taught workshops and seminars at BreyerFest for the last few years and is deeply involved in the world of model horse showing – she serves as the Treasurer for the Great Lakes Congress! In this tutorial, Liz will teach you how to move your herd of horses from the bedroom floor to the show ring. Learn the ins and outs of spotting a winner, assigning breeds, and showing in different classes. Participants are even invited to bring in a model of their own to receive personalized guidance. This workshop is can’t miss for anyone interested in the world of model horse showing!
Etching with Val Starcher is a must-do for anyone interested in this type of model customization. Val, who has supported many aspects of BreyerFest for decades (including her thoughtful annual donation of a beautifully-etched model to the BreyerFest Silent Auction) is an amazing talent. In this class, participants will learn how to take a solid bay model horse (which is provided to participants) and etch out amazing white markings. This class requires participants to be comfortable using an exacto knife.
Pinots & Painted Ponies with Darian Buckles and Bonnie Robb is our second wine & paint workshop for 2020. Inspired by the painted ponies of Lexington – life-sized horse sculptures painted with designs ranging from abstract art to pastoral scenes – participants in this class will get to paint their very own in miniature! This workshop is restricted to guests 21 and over (ID will be checked) and participants receive a drink ticket for this workshop’s very own wine bar! Cheers!
