Donna Brothers signs a model
The 146th running of the Kentucky Derby will be taking place this weekend, and we wanted to take this opportunity to highlight this historic event and take a look back at our own tribute to horse racing from 2018, during BreyerFest "Off to the Races."
This race, run continuously at Churchill Downs since 1875, is traditionally the first leg of the Triple Crown races that also include the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes. This year, the Belmont Stakes was the first race (run in June) and the winner, Tiz the Law, is gearing up for this weekend! This handsome 2017 colt is owned by Sackatoga Stable and trained by Barclay Tagg. We wish him, and all the contenders, the best of luck!
BreyerFest "Off to the Races" paid tribute to the Triple Crown races with our Garland Gift Shop pop-up stores, but we also were delighted to host some huge names in the racing industry - from track pony Harley (who was made into a model that year) and his rider Monnie Goetz, to NBC sports analyst Donna Brothers, who hosted the "Women in Racing" panel discussion.
"Off to the Races" highlighted champions from disciplines across the board - from flat track racing, to endurance racing, barrel racing, harness racing, and eventing. The event featured larger-than-life equine stars like our Celebration Horse, Thoroughbred Brass Hat, harness racing champ Foiled Again, endurance superstar LV Integrity, and OTTB turned jumping pro, Old Ironsides.
We wanted to take this opportunity, while Derby fans are gearing up to don their race day finest and kicking back with a Mint Julep (safely at home this year), to take a walk down BreyerFest memory lane with this photo tribute to "Off to the Races" - enjoy!
