For Breyer fans who participated in Breyer Boot Camp in February, or were part of last weekend’s exclusive Collector Club Event, True Blue Breyer, you might already know this next artist!
Meet – Franceyn Dare!
Franceyn is thrilled to be participating in BreyerFest this summer as a part of the Artisans’ Gallery – being virtual makes it so much easier for Down Under collectors like herself to be a part of the fun. Franceyn had planned to join us at BreyerFest in 2020, but the pandemic had other plans for her. She still hopes to be able to come to Kentucky one day, but for now, she is happy being a part of the event from the comfort of home.
Franceyn got her first Breyer models from her kindergarten teacher when she was just 5 years old, but it wasn’t until many years later that she became a more active collector. Horses have filled her heart and soul for as long as she can remember – thanks to her mother, Franceyn was riding before she could even walk! Being around horses for most of her life inspired her to bring them to life through her art and spent many years as a professional 2D equine artist, working for magazines and doing private commissions.
It wasn’t until around 2013 that she discovered the hobby community and she’s since fallen in love with customs and artist resins. The BreyerFest buzz immediately caught her attention! While she hasn’t made it to the event yet, she’s found many real and model horse events in Melbourne, where she lives, and has judged a few live model horse shows in her local hobby community.
While her passion is definitely the realism and detail found in model horses, and bringing these small replicas to life, she also loves to play up the other side of the art – whimsical and fantasy horses! In her own work these days, she’s been creating what she calls “cutely creepy and oddly adorable” pieces.
For BreyerFest this year, Franceyn is excited to bring fans some beautiful, highly-detailed resin and custom horses, but also invites fans on a journey to get happily lost in the fiction of some of her more playful and quirky characters. You can find her work here!
