It's finally BreyerFest week and we are winding down our artist and Marketplace seller features with only a couple left! Today’s final vendor spotlight is of an avid collector who has been growing her herd for over 50 years! With an impressive collection of 2,000+ models, this Marketplace seller is excited to offer some unique and vintage items to Breyer Fans!
Meet Dawn Shaw of Blizzard’s Herd!
Dawn has a collection of more than 2,000 horses, which started in 1970 when she was gifted a Family Arabian Mare in matte bay for her 4th birthday – she was hooked instantly. Her family was baffled with her love of horses and had no idea where this passion came from. Since real horses were clearly out of the picture for Dawn, models were the next best thing! She started to collect heavily throughout the 80’s and 90’s and built up her massive collection; now dedicating an entire room to its storage and presentation.
Dawn took to professionally restoring model horses, which helped her buy her first real Icelandic horse - one of her favorite breeds. She took a 15 year hiatus from the hobby from 2005-2020 to focus on her real horses and build her professional speaking career. Now she is back in action and starting to collect again to revamp her herd. She loves all of the new molds and new colors coming out.
One of Dawn’s proudest accomplishments is that she and a friend, on behalf of the United States Icelandic Horse Congress, assisted in the creation of the sculpt of the Breyer Icelandic horse mold by providing information to help create a more breed-accurate model. Helping with this was the fulfillment of a dream for her. Being able to combine two areas of her life for which she has a deep passion!
Residing on the West coast in Washington state, attending BreyerFest every year was not an option for Dawn; only attending one during the early years when it was hosted in Bend, Oregon. She attended last year’s event virtually and is looking forward to being able to attend virtually for the second time. She is very excited to offer some pieces from her personal collection and will have a lot of vintage original finish models as well as a smattering of more recent models. You can check out her sales page here!
BreyerFest starts on Friday this week, so if you still don't have your tickets yet, get them here!
