Earlier today we met an artist who is excited to showcase her customs for the first time! This afternoon’s spotlight showcases a veteran seller who has been selling since 2017!
Meet Lori Larsen of Sapphire Sky Studios!
Like many of the featured artists this year, Lori grew up with a strong love of horses. In addition to collecting models when she was younger, she also displayed incredible artistic talent, so she decided to pursue this passion in college and graduated with a degree in art and design from Emily Carr University. In 2007 she came across a few Maureen Love Classic scale models that piqued her interest. She took to the internet to check out what else was out there and discovered the paintwork of many artists and some fun mohair creations! She decided to re-enter the world of model horses and was astounded by the level of realism that existed in the hobby.
Lori’s favorite medium to work with is oil paints. She has dabbled in painting oils on canvas for years and never thought she’d transfer those skills to model horses. She also decided to experiment with mohair and loved it! She has had so much fun learning new techniques and seeing what other artists create. Residing in Vancouver, Canada she loves how the model community can share and interact with one another from all over the world.
Lori first attended BreyerFest in 2017 and started selling her work at the Artisans’ Gallery that year for the first time as well. She is thrilled to be able to showcase her work again during this year’s Artisans’ Gallery. She will have many custom pieces for sale and will have something for every Breyer fan! Can’t wait till the online celebration of BreyerFest: Horse of a Different Color next month? Check out Lori’s amazing work here or follow her on Instagram at Larsen888.
