Wrapping up the weekend with another artist spotlight! Today we introduce you to an artist from our neighbor to the north, Canada, who is very excited to be participating in this year’s BreyerFest: Horse of a Different Color!
Meet Lynn Cassels-Caldwell of Snowdrift Studio!
Despite the lack of real horses in Lynn’s early life, that did not stop her from loving and developing a passion for them! For as long as she can remember she has always loved horse and growing up would read about them, draw and paint them, and even dream about them! Later in life she was lucky enough to have owned, trained, and shown Arabians. She credits her style of artwork to constant exposure to her living, breathing equine companions. Lynn learned about BreyerFest from a friend several years ago, but was also solicited by Breyer to use one of her photographs of Breyer portrait horse SBH Phoenix. She attended the event in 2014 and sort of fell into customizing when she entered the BreyerFest Open show that year! She created pieces just for the show and that experience reignited her love of model horses.
Lynn loves to try and capture the beauty and soul of the horse in each of her pieces. Her art background has certainly helped her – she’s been a traditional horse portrait artist, professional horse show photographer, and graphic designer. She loves to learn new techniques and challenger herself to improve. Dappled horses in all colors are her favorites! She is always impressed by the massive scope of the model horse hobby. She loves seeing all the wonderful things people create! Lynn is an active live and photo shower and loves everything this hobby has to offer!
She has been to BreyerFest three times so far and last year was her first year selling in the Artisans’ Gallery during our virtual celebration of Celtic Fling. She is excited to be selling again and will have a variety of models, resins, and medallions in different sizes, breeds, and colors. She’ll also have a very special collaboration with another Artisans’ Gallery artists. Check out her wonderful work here!
