This year at BreyerFest, we are pleased to welcome Dr. Rebecca Gimenez and her crew from TLAER – Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue, including her horses Aerial and Torque!
Dr. Gimenez and her horses will be presenting in the Annex Ring as a part of our Salute to Horse Heroes clinic series each day of BreyerFest. TLAER works to educate horse owners so they are better equipped to deal with a crisis, should they encounter one. They define their work as the practical considerations, behavioral understanding, specialty equipment, techniques, methodologies, and tactics to perform safe extrication of a live large animal from entrapments in local emergencies and disaster areas.
Each day of BreyerFest weekend, Dr. Gimenez will be working with her live horses, Aerial and Torque, along with their not-so-live counterparts, to demonstrate the work they do with fire departments and other rescue organizations to teach the latest concepts, techniques, and procedures being used today in large animal rescue.
We here at Breyer love a story that tugs at the heartstrings and the work that Aerial and Torque do is no exception. These horses are true heroes; their training is extensive and varied, from faking an injury to pretending to be scared – even having to be lifted from a ditch in a sling! We highly encourage seeing them in action during their clinics at BreyerFest – the full schedule will be available online starting in June.

I have seen their talks before, and I have their manual for first responders. I’m looking forward to seeing them again, and I hope they have their manual for sale at BreyerFest. It’s a great gift for your local first responders, and something that you should have in your vehicle if you’re pulling a horse trailer.
Comments will be approved before showing up.
