There is a lot of emphasis on the BreyerFest Open Model Horse Show, which is a great show, but if you’re not quite ready for that level of competition, BreyerFest also offers the best way to get your hooves wet – the Youth & Children’s Model Horse Shows, taking place at the Alltech Arena on Saturday, July 15th.
If you're aged 4 to 16 and have not yet shown in the Open division of other model horse shows and are looking to get started in this awesome hobby activity, this show is a great way to learn the ropes in a slower-paced, educational environment. Open to VIP and All-Access ticket holders, these two shows are divided by age group, have the same class lists, and run concurrently.
The purpose of the Children’s Show is to provide a novice level fun show for children up to age 12. Breed classes are designed to teach children how to match models with breed assignments. Documentation is optional, but recommended for unusual breeds. English and Western Pleasure classes are designed to teach entrants how to correctly tack up and present a model and will be accompanied by helpful critiques to encourage each entrant to build on strengths and how to improve entries. The Scene, Most Loved, and Other Performance classes help teach entrants to develop an idea and present a model in a context, accompanied by a brief narrative of the scenario.
The purpose of the Youth Show is to build on the skills developed in the Children’s show, and prepare entrants aged 13-16 for the level of competition in the BreyerFest Open Show. Breed classes include a requirement for documentation of all breed assignments to demonstrate research skills. Performance classes are designed to enhance the entrants' skill in tacking up and presenting a model under saddle. Scene and costume classes provide an opportunity to develop a theme or idea.
If you are 13-16 and already showing in the “open” divisions of NAN-qualifying shows, you should show in the BreyerFest Open show. The Open show does include an Adult Novice division.
1st-10th place flats will be awarded in all classes and Division and Overall Champions and Reserve Champions will receive rosettes and prizes from Breyer. You can learn more about these shows here and meet this show’s fantastic managers, Eleanor & Kim, here!
