Last year at BreyerWest, we were happy to host one of this dynamic duo, but this year we are delighted to be hosting them both!
The Mares in Black is a model horse podcast created and hosted by hobbyists for hobbyist that focuses on all aspects of the model horse hobby. The show covers all makes and media of the miniature equine world, as well as collecting & showing and features the talented artists that drive the hobby. Mares in Black airs at bi-weekly with hosts Jackie and Heather covering news, new releases, interviews, Instagram in Progress, and model horse shows and events, like BreyerWest & BreyerFest! The Mares are dedicated to welcoming youth and new adult showers into the model horse family by offering mentoring for all ages and background and promoting diversity and inclusion in the hobby.
Jackie and Heather are both recovering real horse enthusiasts, and model horse collectors since childhood.
Jackie shows mostly performance and custom/artist resin halter, but the bulk of her collection- over a thousand pieces! - is OF Breyer models. She has been a past co-chair for Nationals and actively judges both live and photo shows. She never really left the hobby despite trying before grad school in 1994.
As an Army Brat, Heather could not have a horse of her own, so Breyers were the next best thing. Heather collects all: plastic, china, resin custom. She has held several MSOTY honored model horse shows and has been an active judge and volunteer in the hobby since 1994.
When they are not obsessing over tiny horses, Jackie fixes broken pets for a living and Heather communicates about space and planes and stuff for her company. The Mares are also the co-managers of the BreyerFest Resin Renaissance Model Horse Show.
For BreyerWest this year, the Mares in Black will be in attendance all weekend and will be stationed at the hobby Q&A table on Sunday! They will be talking with attendees, answering questions, and handing out goodies. Come check out the hands-on display of Breyer models of every size and era, tack and props, mentoring information, showing and collecting handouts, MIB swag, and much more!
