August 2022: Blooper Reel
Judging by Carleigh Isbell
This month’s theme of “Blooper Reel” was absolutely too much fun. The variety of pictures made it really challenging to pick my favorites. This theme really showcases the creativity of the hobby – the assortment of rider mistakes, ponies being naughty, and even furry friends lending a “helping” hand had me laughing out loud! Thank you all for such a fun but difficult contest!

You can’t help but say “oh no!” when looking at this one – great idea and you did a great job creating chaos! The variety of props and details in this scene really stood out to me. Love the doll’s expression as well!
2nd place:
Dakota H., MT
I love how beautiful this shot is with the water – the lighting and the splash is just so pretty! But I do love the juxtaposition of the “fail” – the poor rider must have gotten a cold shock!
3rd place:
Cadence B., TX
I can’t decide what I like more – the rider or the model’s expression! The contrast of the dressage set up at a show and a naughty (but hungry!) pony made me laugh! Great job with the background and the idea!
4th place:
Kinslee H., SC
I’ll be honest – this one made me laugh out loud with a “oh no!” The angle makes it great – I can really picture the rider running after the model as he trots away! You did a fantastic job with this photo!
5th place:
True G., VA
I think a lot of equestrians can relate to a jump gone wrong – but you did a great job with the angle of this photo! It feels like the rider is coming right at me! I also really enjoyed your choice of model – very creative!
6th place:
Camryn S., FL
First, I appreciate the sacrifice you made for this photo! The rider’s expression is just too funny and the rolling and muddy pony is just too good! You did a great job!
Honorable Mentions
Kayla D., SC
I love the choice of model and bake sale item! Hopefully this was a delicious photoshoot for you – you did a great job!
Bella M., AK
I love this idea – I think you did a great job in choosing the model and the angle is really cool!
Bethanne K., AZ
I think a lot of us can relate to this one – but the friend’s expression is just too funny!
18 and Over
1st place:
Jasmine T., OR
I immediately said “Wow!” with this photo! The idea is great but the way you did the water is fantastic! Love the out of focus rider – it really highlights those “oh no!” moments!
2nd place:
Kathy S., OH
I think so many of us can relate to this one, and I do appreciate the sacrifice the model made for this really funny shot! I also really like how you set this one up – you can just feel the optimism of the rider before she turns the corner and sees her muddy pony!
3rd place:
Alli L., VA
I love the juxtaposition of the fancy dressage set up and a naughty horse! You also did a great job with creating “movement” – when I blink I expect the pair to be off and gone!
Kiley C., AZ
I cannot even imagine how you pulled this shot off! This is quite the jump gone wrong! It’s a beautiful shot, but I also really love the tack you chose – the bareback pad and the bitless setup is really fun!
5th place:
Madison M., OH
Accidents happen, and I really think this photo showcases it well! The shot itself is really great – I love the detail of the hat rolling away. But I also really like the model chosen and how well you pulled it off!
6th place:
Amber H., CO
This one definitely made me facepalm and say “Babies!” Very creative shot and I loved your idea because foals just get into everything! Mom’s expression really takes on a new meaning with this photo. Great job!
Honorable Mentions
Caitlin E., CO
What a fun idea! Love the friend sitting next to the “fail” watching!
Isabel E., IL
I can’t not comment on this one – I think so many of us can relate to our friends trying to lend a hand!
Joe S., NY
Unfortunately a scenario so many can relate to, but I love the model’s look at the rider – “What are you doing down there?” Great job!
