The Sweet Home Chicago Recap!

Sadly, the Chicago Collector event has come and gone, but with its passing come good stories, fun memories and tons of cute photos! While the event was limited to 200 guests, we would like to share the weekend recap with everyone!

The weekend did not officially begin until Friday, however many guests chose to arrive throughout the day on Thursday; many even made plans to have dinner together and catch up before the event. On Friday at 12 PM, the Collectors were able to check in, receiving a colored lanyard with nametag and Belvedere, the Sweet Home Chicago event Stablemates.

Next on the agenda: we were off to the races! The Chicago crew loaded up the buses to head to the Arlington Park Race Track. After an Arlington lunch was served everyone enjoyed an afternoon of thoroughbred racing and betting; there was even the opportunity to watch right from the fence! Paddock tours were also offered after each race, guided by an Arlington Park employee who shared some history about the facility and fun facts about racing and jockeying. After the races the group returned to the hotel for a welcome dinner featuring delicious Chicago-style, deep dish-pizza from the legendary Lou Malnati's. Collectors also got a sneak peak at the event models.

Saturday began much earlier than Friday, but our ambitious Chicago guests were more than ready to start day number two. The buses headed out at 8:30 AM for the Dancing Horses show, "The Power of a Dream". Once at the theatre, the group enjoyed a lively performance featuring a troupe of gorgeous, purebred Arabians, two elegant Percherons and an adorably entertaining mini named Harley. Among the Dancing Horses performers were Amie Carr, a former Arabian Nights equestrian performer, and Christine Zerbini, an acclaimed equestrian performer and trainer who grew up with her family's circus. Christine's sister, Sylvia Zerbini, is also a professional performer for the Liberte Equestrian Theatre show and ever performed at BreyerFest in 2012! Following the Dancing Horses performance was a quick lunch and more Dancing Horses fun, including a backstage tour, comical bird show and sightseeing around the venue!

Our next stop was Tempel Farms for the historic Lipizzaner performance, which was a common favorite among many of our attendees. Home of the world's largest privately owned herd of Lipizzaner horses, Tempel Farms was started in 1958. These remarkable horses have since been performing before presidents and guests from all over the country; they have even been ridden by a president and a king! The Tempel Lippizan show consisted of eight performances including the classical Pas De Deux, Quadrille, and Airs Above the Ground. They even dedicated the opening act to their current mares and foals, which frolicked around the arena. The foals were certainly a huge hit with everyone at the show!

The Roaring Twenties Party was a great way to end the night. After changing into themed attire, guests dined on hors d'oeuvres, desserts, and drinks while enjoying a DJ, dancing, gift bags, a centerpiece raffle, and silent auction! Gift bags included the commemorative BreyerFest program, a Stablemates keychain and other fun Breyer mementos and the centerpiece raffle model, Wadsworth, was created in honor of Tempel Farms. Winners of the silent auction, which featured 5 exclusive Breyer models and packages, will be revealed next week!

And finally the day everyone was waiting for; the Breyer store! On Sunday morning our collectors could not wait to get their hands on the event model and their two favorite Special Runs! Breyer staff handed out line numbers for each color group, doing a random drawing for the beginning of each line. Many collectors left Chicago with little suitcase room to spare!

We hope everyone enjoyed the Chicago event and are looking forward to the next Collector Club event! Check back here later to find out who won the Chicago silent auction lots as well as the inside story behind the names of each Sweet Home Chicago Celebration Special Run models!
