Breyer Will Make Portrait Model of Michael Morpurgo's Joey!

Breyer Will Make Portrait Model of Michael Morpurgo's Joey!

You loved the book, and soon you can have your very own "War Horse!"

Breyer Animal Creations®, in affiliation with Michael Morpurgo, will be making the portrait model of "Joey," the lead horse character in his popular book, War Horse. Published in 1982, the book tells the story of World War I through the eyes of Joey, a brave and beautiful horse. Joey is owned by a poor village farmer and is much loved by the farmer's son, Albert. Joey is sold to the cavalry when the war breaks out, and a heartbroken Albert goes in search of his beloved horse. Joey and Albert are reunited, but not before they experience both the horror of war and heartwarming acts of kindness from the people they meet along their way home.

This much-loved children's book became a theatrical success in London and New York, and attracted the attention of director Steven Spielberg who is bringing the live action film War Horse to the screen in December 2011.

Keep your eye on for the latest information about Joey's release!

Old Friends

How many times have I made a resolution not to purchase any more models on old molds? I have not seen the movie yet, but I will be sorely tempted by my old childhood friend, Man O' War. What a great excuse to indulge my other addiction and read the book, as well! Will I break my resolution again? Hmmm...

You guys know that before Christmas they had a give away because they only made so many models that they did not want random people just buying them. I entered the competion and so did my parents and we did not win. :( I wish I would have got it, Joey is a beautiful horse! I saw the movie and read the book, they were both really sad, but an inspiration to horse lovers. Does anyone know where I can buy a traditional sized black horse? I need one for my collection.......

I saw War Horse yesterday. I really liked it but there is a little drama. Of course, anything with "war" in the name is like that, but if you can't stand to see dead horses without breaking into a fit wait for Redbox.

Didn't win :-(

First I was sick over Christmas (upper respiratory virus, now into its 9th day) and couldn't attend the big family party. Next my "care package" turkey dinner from the party got left behind and didn't make it home to me. Then I realized I never heard from Breyer. I didn't win that beautiful War Horse. And I am still unemployed and can't afford to buy the regular War Horse.

Not the best Christmas I've ever had, but hey, it could always be worse. Congratulations to those who won. Maybe I will be luckier next time!

I guess im one out of the herd that actually likes the choice of mold he was put on, I don't think MOW looks like a pure "tb" anyway, but to each his own, he will definitely come and live with me :)

AnnaKarin75 Says:
12/17/2011 at 9:00 am

Not what I wanted....

The story and the characters are some of the best ever to appear in a "horsebook". A touching, warming frightening story featuring a devotion and care everyone should have for their beloved equine friends. But the MoW? Err... Idocus would have been a better choice, or even the cantering warmblood/Showjumper. Fail, Breyer. Fail. Not taking that one to Sweden I'm afraid... /Anna-Karin Uhlén, collector in Sweden since 1986.

Am I mistaken here? Wasn't Joey in the book a chestnut and not a bay? I see he is a bay in the movie; but shouldn't the model be a chestnut?

Just finished reading the book, can't wait to see the movie, but I am disappointed in your choice of Man O' War for the model of Joey. Was wondering WHY you never ask us collectors what model we would choose for these special horses?

I read the book, am going to see the play, also going to see the movie and will most likely get the model... But I must agree with most people... Not a huge fan of the mold... I wish you'd have made him on either the Cleveland bay or idocus molds... I also pictured him a bit lighter... Of course my wishes aren't top priority, but I'm just giving input :)

Hoping for a Holiday Joey Release with the Movie ...

I was so hoping that Breyer would have this set ready to go with the movie release ... and I'm so hoping they'll make the book available as a hardcover, not a paperback ... I don't have a 'problem' with the model they used (the MoW) - but as Joey is clearly described in Michael Morpurgo's book as out of an Irish draft mare, and 'half Thoroughbred' (thus by a TB stallion), Breyer has a model RID "O'Leary's Irish Diamond" that's strong enough, yet fine enough, to have perhaps better portrayed Joey, physically. And, as a blood ('red') bay, I think they might have gone just a bit brighter, in the coat colour ...

Lady Kafca Says:

Wow, the Man O War model looks great in this color! We are so glad you supported this play/movie.
