What Does BreyerFest Mean to Me?

That was the question that Breyer posed to our friends and fans in the first-ever BreyerFest Essay Contest this year. We received hundreds of entries which we read and shared among the BreyerFest team. There were so many and they were all so good! It was such a challenge to select just one from each age group. Finally, we were able to make the decision and we want to congratulate Youth Winner Samantha M. from Florida and Dave J from Wisconsin! We hope that you enjoy reading their essays as much as we did! Creating a wonderful experience for our guests at BreyerFest is something we take great pride in and we can't wait to show you what we have in store for you at BreyerFest Carnival! See you there!

What does BreyerFest mean to me? I firmly believe that the only appropriate answer to this question is that BreyerFest means everything to me. It means 365 days of anticipation, making dioramas and performance entries all summer, saving every penny all year, seeing my model horse friends, and enjoying the most exciting three days of my entire year.

BreyerFest makes my year a cycle of fun activities. My year is somewhat structured like a lunar calendar... except the phases of my calendar are centered around BreyerFest. The cycle goes like this: as soon as I leave the park on the last day of BreyerFest I begin to think about next year- who the guest horses might be, what performance entries I want to create, and the list goes on. Throughout the course of the year, I pet-sit to earn money, brainstorm ideas for the diorama and costume contests, and begin planning how to make everything. As soon as school gets out, I begin making things: the diorama, costume, and tiny tack to show. Then my mom and I cram everything into our van and begin the "BreyerFest or Bust" journey from Florida to Kentucky. Then I have the best three days of my year, and when it is all over I eagerly look for the sign announcing next year's theme. And so begins the cycle again!

BreyerFest not only means three days of fun; it means a whole year of excitement, which eventually adds up to a lifetime of excitement. - By Samantha M., Florida

My story begins on a wintery evening in northern Wisconsin. My daughter Jessica came to me with a smirky smile asking me to look at her Kindle. Looking at the tablet screen I saw pictures of horses which for this ten year old was as common as snowflakes in January. The pictures were accompanied by something called "Breyerfest" and in her sweetest voice she asked; " Daddy can we go? " I thought long and hard about what my daughter had asked of me both financially and logistically. Jessica's face lit up when she opened that tiny little box and pulled out a small pink button for Breyerfest.

My wife was unable to attend Breyerfest and questioned my sanity on this undertaking more than once. I was going across the country with a Breyer crazed daughter on a twelve hour car ride even though the farthest I have ever driven was six hours. We arrived in Lexington on July 21st. The next three days we did our best to experience all that Breyerfest had to offer to the best of our virgin abilities. We were fifty miles from home neither when I realized we hadn't turned on the radio nor had Jessica played any electronics. We talked and talked about Breyerfest and Breyers the whole journey both before the experience and after.

Breyerfest to me was a high point in my life as I was able to spend precious time with my daughter. It truly was Dave and Jessica's excellent adventure! - By Dave J., Wisconsin
