For tens of thousands of years, horses have had an integral relationship with humans. As a result of this relationship, horses have featured prominently in art for millennia. The cave paintings of Pech Merle in France are estimated to be more than 29,000 years old and the more well-known cave paintings in Lascaux, France are estimated to be about 16,000 years old. Horses feature prominently in ancient Greek art, dating back 2,500 years, followed by Roman art, Medieval Art, Renaissance Art, and beyond to the present day.
Participants in this year’s BreyerFest 2021 Horses Throughout Art History Diorama Contest are invited to create a diorama, using at least one Breyer model in any scale, which recreates a horse in art from anything from pottery to paintings using any materials you’d like, from a public domain/open access work of art from one of the links provided (see How to Enter and Official Rules below). Take photographs of your entry and pick the one to four you like best. Then submit your photograph(s) of your creation via email to be judged and you might win a Breyer “Stubbs” Model (Estimated retail value $300 USD)!*
Many will enter, but only twenty-eight (28) will win (seven (7) entries in each of four (4) age groups)!
