Continuing our series of uplifting stories from BreyerFests past, we received this heartwarming tale from long-time equine demonstration group The Ohio Standardbreds & Friends recounting an experience from our 2018 celebration of “Off to the Races.”
That year, to help us celebrate our tribute to all things horse racing, the Ohio Standardbreds included harness racing superstar Foiled Again, who remains the leading money winning Standardbred of all time.
“At a BreyerFest filled to the withers with legends from the horse racing industry, it was amazing to see just how many fans these incredible horses had. There were hundreds of Foiled Again's fans there that weekend just waiting for their chance to see this legend up close.
One young girl who was just 8 years old could not contain her excitement about seeing "her" Foiled Again. Tears actually ran down her face, as well as her mother’s face, when she got to have her photo taken with him! She asked me ‘Did you know he won his 100th race on Sunday?’ While that was information I did, in fact, already know, it was so amazing to hear her enthusiasm over that fact!
Meeting young people like her, with such enthusiasm and knowledge about these incredible animals, give me so much hope for the next generation of women in the horse industry! She had her Breyer Model of Foiled Again to be signed and Mr. Burke took time to talk to her and to sign her Breyer. The joy on the face of that young girl will forever be a great memory of mine.”
We loved being able to host Foiled Again, his rider and trainer Ron Burke, and all the Standardbred horses that year at BreyerFest. Do you have a favorite memory from our Off to the Races BreyerFest in 2018? Post in the comments below!

So in 2018 I was entered in the children’s show and behind me sat a little girl and her grandma. This little girl maybe had 5 horses and it was getting towards lunch time and she had two horses left. None of her horses had placed so far and not to brag or anything but all of mine were. She congratulated me every time I brought a horse back to my table and asked me a few questions about how I got started showing and how I chose Live Show Quality models. It was her last class and she had a model that went in the Sport Breed class (probably the largest class of the day) and we had both went up to the table, dusted off our models and hoped for the best. I went back to my table and the little girl sat beside me and we talked and talked. As soon as we knew it the class had been pinned. We get to the table and her horse got a honorable mention. I have NEVER in my ENTIRE life seen a little girl so happy. She was jumping up and down crying tears of joy. I didn’t place but I was so happy for this little girl. She showed my grandma as well as hers. It just makes me so happy to see somebody who’s not had as much luck as some of the other exhibitors but still remain in very good spirits.

My favorite memory from off to the races was getting to know LV integrity. He was so sweet an kind of a goofball. His owners where so nice and evened singed him for me one of the hundred times we went to see him. I was lucky enough to get his gift basket in the silent auction. I was so happy. I went back to see him later and his owners told me one of the belt buckles in the basket is the only one in the world with his name on it. I now have my LV up on a shelf with all his stuff from the basket. I’m so happy to have meet this amazing horse. I really enjoyed it.
