The Story of Athena – Part 4
Destined for Greatness
“I knew Athena was an amazing horse from the moment I saw her in that pasture,” Amanda reflected. Amanda thinks about that moment often, especially in the fall when the anniversary of Athena’s adoption approaches.
But knowing a horse is destined for great things, and realizing those dreams, are two very different journeys. Despite being called naïve, being told she didn’t know what she was talking about, being told Athena was too feral and dangerous, Amanda was determined to show everyone what Athena was capable of. After nursing Athena through her injury and getting her under saddle, Amanda was determined to make Athena a show horse.
Almost a year to the day later, Amanda and Athena entered their first show and won every class they participated in.
Amanda realized then that Athena truly was the amazing and talented horse she believed Athena to be. Realizing this potential, Amanda set the goal for them that they would attend a world horse show. “I don’t know how we are going to get there; I’ve never done it myself, but we’re going to go,” Amanda decided. And now, only a few years later, with ten world titles under her belt, Amanda and Athena have proven all the nay-sayers wrong.
But nothing could have prepared Amanda for the phone call she would receive in the late spring of 2023.
“I had no idea, looking at her past, that one day she was going to be a Breyer Horse! It's been the most surreal experience ever.”
