Cody's Wish Defends Breeders' Cup Title
At this weekend's Breeders' Cup, held at Santa Anita Park in California, all eyes were on Cody's Wish. The 5 year old was the favorite in this year's Dirt Mile - both on the books and in fans' hearts. It was announced that this would be his final race before retiring to stud in 2024.
In a nail-biting race, Cody's Wish excelled in his "come-from-behind" style for which he's come to be known. Powering through the final stretch, crowds cheered as he surged through the pack, beating 2023 Preakness winner National Treasure to the wire by a nose and defending his Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile title for the second year. With Cody Dorman and his family in attendance, the win was a Hollywood ending and a perfect swan song to such a storied career for this stallion.
Unfortunately, the celebrations for this weekend's victory took a sad turn on Monday morning. The Dorman family announced that on their way home from California, Cody suffered a medical event from which he did not recover, passing away at the age of 17. Breyer's thoughts are with the Dorman family, their friends, and connections in this difficult time.
As part of the release of our Traditional scale portrait model of Cody's Wish, Breyer will be donating $10,000 to Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana to help more local children like Cody experience life-changing wishes.
