October 2022: Fantasy Frolic

Judging by Kylee Parks

This month, entrants were encouraged to submit entries defined as "unrealistic" - i.e. moments that wouldn't happen in the real-life equestrian world. Aside from that, this theme could be open to many different interpretations, from chilling Halloween-themed entries to fanciful fantasy equines. These are the entries that stood out amongst the crowd!

17 and Under

1^st place:

Lucy H., TX

I absolutely love the unique angle of this photo! It uses light wonderfully, and I especially love the use of the black and white horse paired with a vibrant, glittery setting. It is not often that footing also works as the backdrop, and that it does it so very well. An incredibly creative image that feels very fantastical. Well done!

2^nd place:

A take on Goldilocks and the Three Bears, perhaps? This photo tells a wonderful story, and I love the attention to detail. It is every horse girl’s fantasy to have horses in their house, after all! A very creative and fun photo.

3^rd place:

This trio is clearly up to no good and I absolutely love it! Each model makes a very believable character in this photo. I really like the smoke and use of nature. It fits with the theme so well! Bravo!

I really like the use of lighting, both warm and cool, in this picture. I feel as though I am witnessing a great battle. I love the accessories for the vegetation - they add a lot of interest to the scene and create a balanced, pleasing image! This is very fantastic, indeed!

I really like the composition and story this image tells. The rider and horse truly appear to be looking right at the unicorn crossing their path. For sure a magical photo!

A very creative image that absolutely embodies the fantastical theme. What more could we want that our horse dreams to trot right off the page into our world? Great use of color, angle and artistic feel! Very imaginative!

I love this photo so much... such a fabulous concept that was executed very well. As chilling as the shadow monster appears, this girl will sleep safely being guarded by that magical steed.

What a cute and creative photo! These little alicorns and their surroundings all feel so believable and in-scale. Simply beautiful!

I love the contrast in color of this bright horse against the crisp, white snowy backdrop. He is perfectly in focus and the subtle reflective rainbow is a nice touch!
