The Second Release in the 2019 Premier Collection
The second release in the 2019 Premier Collection is Hamilton, an American Saddlebred stallion. The lineage of this fine horse took root in the United States back in the 1700s, when colonists crossed imported Thoroughbreds with the Narragansett Pacer. Their animated and powerful gaits, accented by lovely arched necks and long tails, made them highly desirable riding and driving horses.
Hamilton was sculpted and painted by artist Jennifer Scott of Aspen Leaf Studios. A lifelong artist and horsewoman, her passion for horses is rooted in both the real and model horse worlds. In Jennifer’s first Traditional sculpture for Breyer, she captured Hamilton performing an animated rack - a pose that came with its own set of challenges. Hamilton needed to stand without a base while keeping the floating appearance of his gait. The solution was a dynamic tail that is beautiful and functional. Jennifer explains, “The long, streaming tail was my counterbalance to the heavy front end. It had to be long and thick in order to do that, but not look too bulky or still and stiff in the process. The shining glory of the look of the tail is that it’s actually one of the most functional parts of the design. When you can marry form and function like that, everyone wins.”
To finish this piece, Jennifer gave Hamilton a stunning deep red bay tobiano coat. His white markings pop, and they’re accented by light mapping and some cat tracks. He also has detailed eyes and a show-ring appropriate red ribbon in his mane.
