The first release in the 2022 Collection is Zafirah, a flashy Arabian mare. There’s something about the Arabian, one of the world’s oldest horse breeds, that always draws our attention. Their ethereal beauty, combined with their spirit and intelligence, has ensured that the Arabian continues to be one of the most popular breeds. More than just a pretty face, the Arabian is an incredible athlete and partner. In endurance competition, in which rides can be of distances up to 100 miles in challenging terrain, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better mount!
Zafirah is poised for showing in-hand (and a likely victory!), Breyer fan favorite artist Brigitte Eberl captured both the fire and elegance of the Arabian. Well-known for her authentic Arabian sculptures, Brigitte portrays the breed beautifully in part to her deep knowledge of the breed, having owned an Arabian mare herself for over 22 years! Her greatest challenge with this piece was creating a harmonious sculpture that showed Zafirah’s presence, attention, and femininity while in a show pose.
Artist Myla Pearce created Zafirah’s original finishwork. She gave her a richly-hued liver chestnut coat, a reddish blonde mane and tail, and touches of chrome to bring this amazing sculpture to life. A lifelong horseperson and accomplished full-time professional artist, Myla’s equine background, including working as a farrier, has lent her work a realistic feel. She shares, “My real horse experiences have shown me how to bring life and authenticity to my artwork…The real horses have been some of my best teachers; anatomy, color, and patience!”
Zafirah has a dark liver chestnut coat with subtle dappling, and her mane and tail feature strands of blonde, chestnut, and near black. She also has detailed eyes, striped hooves, ermine spots, and mapping on edges of white markings.
