The Breton is a French breed of draft horse. It originated in Brittany, in northwest France, from cross-breeding local horses with various other breeds. It is strong and muscular, and often has a chestnut coat. Variations include flaxen chestnut or chestnut roan, while bay, blue roan, and black are also found on occasion.

The Breton is used in many capacities, due to the various subtypes of the breed. Smaller types can be used under saddle and for fast, light draft work, while larger types are ideal for heavy draft and agricultural work.
