Developed by settlers of the Ozark Mountains in the early 19th century, the Missouri Fox Trotter is a quintessentially American breed. It is named after their natural ambling gait, known as the "fox trot," that is smooth and comfortable to ride. They are a favorite among trail riders spending long hours in the saddle, as well as ranch workers.
