The Triceratops Horridus was an herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the Upper Cretaceous period. Its name means three-horned face. The mouth was equipped with a horned beak and the heavy neck shield was solid bone. Its armor would also have afforded some protection against attacks from giant meat-eating dinosaurs.
Triceratops is one of the most recognizable of all dinosaurs and also one of the largest, up to 26 feet long and 9 metric tons in body mass.
