Throwback Video: BreyerFest 1996!

Here at Breyer HQ, we are knee-deep in BreyerFest prep - and with that in mind, we're going all-in for this month's newsletter! Recently unearthed from the Breyer Archives, we were delighted to find a VHS of BreyerFest footage from 1996. Many things about BreyerFest have changed in the last 28 years, but there are plenty of things that haven't, too, which you'll see in this video!

This footage has particular focus on guest horse Karma Gypsy and her owner/exhibitor Maddy Winer, who demonstrated her horse's willing disposition by singing on horseback while her 2 month old filly, SS Morning Star, bounded around the Covered Arena. In fact, Morning Star was so beloved by guests that she would have her own model made the following year in 1997!

WONDERFUL, WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN THERE. I HAVE CLOSE TO A THOUSAND HORSE STATUES, THE MAJORITY ARE BREYER, SOME GIFTS FROM OTHER PLACES AND CLOSE TO 200 HORSE PLATES. WE HAVE HAD REAL HORSES DURING OUR JOURNEY IN LIFE AND WHEN OUR DAUGHTER WAS HURT IN AN ACCIDENT, I TRYULY BELIEVE THEY ARE WHAT KEPT US GOING. I HAVE LOVED HORSES ALL OF MY LIFE AND HAVE A DAUGHTER THAT HAS THE SAME ’DISEASE’’ WE CALL IT- COLLECTING ANYTHING HORSEY. I AM 86 AND STILL LOVE THE VELVETY FEEL OF A KISS FROM A HORSE AND THE SMELL OF LEATHER AND HORSE. THANK YOU GOD FOR MAKING THEM A PART OF OUR LIVES

What a great flashback! 1996 was my first Breyerfest. I fell in love with the models, real horses, and the Kentucky Horse park. I’ve been back to Breyerfest 24 times and made it a family adventure. Thank you for hosting such a wonderful celebration of horses.

That was the year of the Olympics in Atlanta. We had to drive up to Breyerfest and only attend one day that year due to our equestrian event tickets at the Olympics. I had some mileage going from Conyers, GA to Lexington KY back to Conyers GA. I still have Tseminole Wind, Karma Gypsy and Morning Star!

What a great memory! I loved seeing Sande and her husband being interviewed. It’s hard to believe that this was 1996. Each BF just gets better and better. I’m so looking forward to this years event.
