Þingvellir, which is anglicized as Thingvellir, is a National Park located in southwest Iceland that has both cherished historical significance and incredible geographic significance. Thingvellir, and the nation of Iceland, sits on the continental divide, which means part of the island is on the North American tectonic plate and part is on the Eurasian tectonic plate. This intersection can be plainly seen in the geography of the park and is also the reason that Iceland has so much volcanic and hot spring activity.

Historically, Thingvellir, which literally translates to “Assembly Plains”, was the site of the Althing, the nation’s parliamentary meeting, from the year 930 until 1798. (The Althing was moved to Reykjavik in the 19th century.) This general assembly of leaders was where laws were made, court convened, and where the free men of Iceland could gather to bring their disputes to officials. The Althing is the oldest parliament in the world.

In celebration of this incredible site and its revered history, we are pleased to present our next Special Run model reveal for BreyerFest: Midsummer Fair. The timeless Man O’ War mold, #47, sculpted by Chris Hess, has been reimagined as Thingvellir, a handsome grullo overo and will be available to VIP, All-Access, and Online Traditional Access ticketholders.

We will see you right back here on the BreyerFest Blog tomorrow for another reveal!
