Summer Breyer Fun Day at the World Equestrian Center!
Meet a relative of Surfer's Riptide and more at WEC on Saturday, May 17th!
Today’s demo group is also promoting rescue horses and teaching people that just because a horse isn’t registered, doesn’t have the best pedigree, or isn’t in a top show program doesn’t mean they don’t have the ability to become great. Any horse can become a star with proper care, love, and basic, correct training, and that is exactly what Christy Tucker of Twisted Tucker Farms embodies with her rescue mare Dixie.
Christy first came across Dixie as an emaciated two-year-old who was living in terrible, dark conditions. Christy saw something special in the black Arabian/Tennessee Walker cross mare. She decided to rescue her and give the small black mare a second chance at life. Christy spent the next few months slowly putting weight on the skinny mare and easing her into training and work. While working with Dixie, Christy saw she had such a calm demeanor and loved to be the center of attention. This prompted Christy to start doing different fun tricks with Dixie as a fun way to bond and change up her riding routine. Dixie picked up on the tricks easily and loved to perform.
Christy started filming Dixie’s repertoire of tricks, which included rearing up and laying down on command, and putting them on social media for fun. After sharing her tricks, Dixie amassed quite the following! One day, not long after sharing Dixie over social media, Christy got a missed call from an animal actor scout in California who saw Dixie's videos. She thought it was a scam, but she luckily listened to the voicemail that was left and called them back. The scout loved her and her tricks and thought she would be a perfect fit for an upcoming film. Getting into movies and TV was something Christy never imagined she would be doing with her once malnourished rescue, especially being from a small town. But once Dixie got in front of the camera for the first time, the rest was history!
Dixie has now starred in three films! Her acting debut was as one of the star horses in the movie Orphan Horse with Jon Voight. Dixie did most of the tricks seen in the movie. In addition to the rearing and laying down tricks she performs on camera, she also knows how to Spanish walk, pick up a bowl, take a blanket off her back, give kisses, stick her tongue out, and say yes and no. You could say this horse was just born to be in the spotlight. Christy has noticed how her special mare perks up in front of the camera and loves performing and connecting with people. Christy knows the mare is having fun and always makes sure Dixie gets enough treats and praise after doing a job well done. It’s refreshing for Christy to see her rescue mare loving life and thriving after overcoming her harsh beginning. One chapter did not define the rest of Dixie’s story.
Christy and Dixie are bringing a new friend for BreyerFest fans to meet; Tucker the mini horse will be performing alongside Dixie in their demo with Christy’s niece Lyanna. Tucker is a 21 year old registered American miniature horse gelding. Christy worked to pay him off when she was 8 years old and Tucker was only 2. Since then he has become her farm’s mascot! Christy showed Tucker in miniature horse shows as a kid and then began training him to do tricks. He loves to be the center of attention and will do anything for food!
As soon as Lyanna was old enough to sit on a horse, Christy started leading her around on Tucker. Lyanna began learning to ride alone on him, even though he knocked her off a few times. Tucker taught her to have a great seat and a strong passion for horses. Tucker is a huge part of both their hearts and makes a wonderful team with Dixie!
This star-studded quartet is excited to come back to BreyerFest and show fans all their tricks. Make sure to stop by the event stabling to learn more about Dixie and Tucker or catch them daily in the Covered Arena!
