Meet Queen of Hearts, better known as Josie. While Josie looks every bit the typical bay warmblood on her right side, it’s her left side that has been known to turn quite a few heads, as it’s covered in unique white brindle markings that resemble stripes! These markings, which only appear on one side, may possibly be the result of her being a chimera, which occurs when two non-identical embryos fuse together in utero.

The 2002 KWPN mare has been owned by Gabriella Savettiere since 2009. They enjoyed a successful career in the Children’s Hunters together, including being the 2012 & 2013 1st Over Fences & Reserve Champion at Zone 2 Hunter Finals. In the Adults, they most recently were the 2020 M&S 2’6” Adult Medal Year-End Champions! While Josie’s time in the show ring is slowing down, Gabriella’s bond with her once-in-a-lifetime-horse is as strong as ever.
For BreyerFest: Horse of a Different Color, Josie has been immortalized as one of the Traditional (1:9) scale portrait models that will be available in this year’s Limited Edition collection of models.
$75.00 each, 3,500 pieces made for shipment in July; backordered models will ship in late December.
Check back later today for ANOTHER reveal, right here on the BreyerFest Blog!

wow ever seen a horse that looks likes that

Just realized that my Voyeur faced the right side in the box. If Breyer keeps Josie facing the right side in the box we can’t see her unique brindle pattern unless we take her out of the box. Breyer please flip the direction she faces in the box so everyone can admire her beautiful pattern without having to open her out of the box!!!

She’s such a cool model. Well done breyer.😁

In his real life pictures I actually thought he had water running down the side of him….like he just had a bath but than realized it is his actual color. Interesting pattern.

I’m getting a ticket this year, I’m saving money up to buy models and this one is on my list.
January 15, 2021
Hooray for a brindle, and a really neat chimera one at that! I love that she’s based on a real horse. I love even more that she’s not a World Champion, high-end breeding horse, but rather a beloved family horse shown regionally! Congrats to Gabriella and Josie for being honored with a portrait model. She’s beautiful!

January 20, 2021
It’s a somatic mutation. Please stop using “chimera” like it’s the latest fashion craze and perpetuating misinformation.
January 15, 2021

I was so thrilled that you did a model of her. And even though it is on the jumper mold I had to get one for my collection. I had seen many models done in Brindle on the Stone webstie but unfortunately a lot of them were only done as one of a kinds which meant once a person bought it that was it the rest of us were shutout Or would go best offers with one which meant the one with the highest bid would win it. Have never offered this patttern in their design a horse to the rest of us to get one. Josie is an awesome looking horse.
