Advanced Restoration

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

The horse that just fell off the shelf and broke not only happened to be your favorite, but it was a ceramic. Now what? Do you mail off your fragile ceramic to a restoration artist, possibly causing more damage in transit, or do you try and tackle the restoration yourself?  In this video artist Jenn Danza will teach viewers how to restore both a ceramic and resin models. You’ll learn the steps, some tips, and what to expect as you work through a fine ceramic restoration.

Draugr Masks

Utilize your hand sewing abilities to create a scary spirit horse mask, from Old Norse folklore in this creative session hosted by Didi Hornberger. “Draugr” is an intelligent, magical creature who guards burial mounds to protect against grave robbers!  Using creatively spooky patterned fabric, 8 mm cabochon “Dragon Eyes”, a 1/8” buckle, 1/8” ribbon, and some “sparkle foam’ foam in gold and black, use your sewing skills to create your own unique version of this this alluring and mystical spirit. Mask is designed to fit the Breyer “Pluto,” “Adonis,” or “Fight Song.”

Etching Dala Horses

Skill Level: Beginner to Advanced

Learn how to create your own Dala Horse through the art of etching!  Originating from the Dalarna province of Sweden, the Dala horse began as simple wood carvings of horses done by farmers, and later developed into brightly-colored wooden sculptures adorned with painted floral designs. In this workshop, hosted by artist Callie Guyer, you will learn how to create some of the popular patterns of Dala Horses through the process of etching, which entails using a blade to scrape away the paint on a Breyer model to form intricate designs. In addition, you will also learn how to give your Dala Horses that extra pop of color by lining your etchings with paint!  This session uses the Big Lex model, which you can purchase here.

In this fun workshop you will learn how to create your very own Leather Crinet or Neckplates with Dani Boiko. You will trace, cut out, and craft your very own piece of horse armor to fit the model provided. This can be paired with the leather Chamfron from last year's video to further build out an armor set for your model. While this workshop shows you the basics of creating a Crinet, you can go on to adorn and embellish the leather in many ways! The possibilities are endless in ways to decorate your Crinet!

Building upon her previous lesson of Weaving Chainmail, expert tack maker Dani Boiko takes the next step in armoring your model!  Learn how to create your very own Leather Chamfron with Dani Boiko in this fun workshop. You will trace, cut out, and craft your very own piece of horse armor to fit your Breyer Traditional scale model. Leather armor was used on horses for many, many years as both protection and decoration. Many horses seen in scifi/fantasy movies are often adorned in armor. Here you will be able to start your very own set beginning with the faceplate known as the Chamfron.

Create your own enchanted miniature world in this hands-on workshop! Using a wooden base, you’ll design a magical moss garden inspired by natural forests and fairytale landscapes, filled with preserved moss, stones, wood, and other organic elements. The centerpiece of the scene will be a hand-sculpted troll created by you during the workshop, alongside a Breyer Freedom Series unicorn to bring the fantasy setting to life. Alongside German artist Vincent Lange, participants will learn basic sculpting and composition techniques while building a unique diorama full of texture, atmosphere, and imagination. Pastelling Fjords
