Meet BreyerWest Youth Competitor, Ellie!
With BreyerWest right around the corner, Breyer talked with some previous Youth and Novice show competitors to find out more about how they got involved with showing model horses. This week, the blog is featuring Ellie.
Ellie is 9 years old and in 4th grade. Her favorite subject in school is physical education and she loves to read! She just learned how to snowboard and enjoys being active. Her love for horses extends to real horses as she loves riding. She also enjoys training dogs.
How did you get involved with Model Horse Shows?
My mom loved going to model horse shows, so she took me to one and I loved it. Since I was young, some of the other showers would give me models so my collection grew quickly. I have been collecting since I can remember so my collection is huge - about 118 already!
What is a piece of advice you would give someone who wants to start showing?
It doesn't matter if you win or not. The point of going is just to have fun. The other showers can be very helpful, and you can make new friends. If you have questions you can ask the show host or the judge. For example, if you don't know what class to put your horse in you can ask the judge. Sign up for the Youth show here!
What is one of your favorite parts about BreyerWest?
I really enjoy getting to see all of the real horses, like last year I met Spanky & Dally. I love to see the trick riders. I like to meet the famous horses like Endo, the horse with no eyes. I love Gypsy Vanners and I got to see a lot of those at BreyerWest. They also have pony rides! The vendors have lots of cool stuff and I got a sweatshirt last year from the Spanky & Dally booth. The event location serves food on-site so I like that we don't have to leave to get lunch.
What is your favorite BreyerWest memory?
Getting to meet Spanky & Dally was really fun. My mom took a sculpting workshop and let me help her sculpt her project. I took the flocking workshop and it was really fun to learn how to make the horse fuzzy! Showing in the youth show was really fun, and I won some models from Breyer.
