The Icelandic Horse is one of the purest horse breeds in the world — it has been isolated on the island since Norse explorers first settled there over 1,100 years ago. This hardy breed is able to withstand the harsh, cold winters of Iceland and is able to navigate a diverse terrain from volcanic rock to sandy beaches. The Icelandic is known for its uniquely smooth gait, the tölt, which is a four-beat lateral gait. Today Icelandic Horses can be found all over the world and are known for their docile temperament. With many prominent Icelandic breeders in America, they are becoming a popular mount for children and adults alike!
One Icelandic standing out from the crowd sports a stunning, chocolatey silver black coat and a lush silver mane and tail. Meet Vindur from Dalalif, a 16-year-old Icelandic stallion, who is turning heads wherever he goes not only for his exceptionally good looks, but for his talent and athleticism as well.

Vindur was bred and born in California and was acquired by owner Lucy Nold when he was 5 years old. From then on, the pair has dominated the West Coast in Icelandic breed shows. His specialty is the V2 class, also known as Open Four-Gait, where horses must present the trot, canter, slow tölt, and fast tölt. He was the top-ranked V2 horse in the International Federation of Icelandic Horse Associations’ world rankings in 2023 and 2024 and was 3rd for 2025. Vindur has also held the title of highest-judged domestic bred four-gaited Icelandic stallion since 2018.

Aside from his long list of accolades, Vindur also has an exceptional personality and is a very loving and goofy stallion. He is a star on trails or the beach and has never put a hoof out of line. Vindur has also been shown by many of Lucy’s young students and has won top placings with them. Lucy hopes one day her daughter will also take the reins on this special stallion and fall in love with the Icelandic breed. To Lucy, Vindur is the whole package. Yes, he has incredibly good looks, but it’s his athleticism and winning personality that make him a true standout.

Vindur from Dalalif’s portrait model is done as a rich silver black on the Icelandic mold (#729), sculpted by Kathleen Moody. He will be available as a part of this year’s Limited Edition model lineup available to all ticket holders, whether you’re joining us in-person or online!
